Chereads / Hero of Anima / Chapter 10 - The Truth

Chapter 10 - The Truth

I walked out of the tent and knew now what I had to do. The walk to the tent was pretty simple, so I was able to find my way out of the city easily. I worried about Jerry, but I assumed Henry would tell him about my task.

Once I got out of the city, I found my way back to Sieve. I walked up to the wall right next to the gate that we built and sat down. I wasn't ready for the pain that followed, but I had to get Fuki's attention. "I was summoned here by-"

Again, I was abruptly cut off by the pain that followed. It felt even more intense this time around, but that had to have reached Fuki. Now, all I had to do was sit here and wait.

-1 Hour Later-

I almost fell asleep outside when I heard the gate start to creak. I fell further behind the stone wall just to see who it was. Surely enough, it was Fuki.

"Great! You got my message! I have an important update." I told Fuki. He nodded, sitting on the wall next to me.

"These Demons aren't actually Demons. They're people. They don't use Illusion Magic, there's no such thing. We killed innocent people." I told Fuki. He seemed unconvinced, so I tried to bring up more evidence.

"Sieve is a Kingdom, right? Just like Hecate? They're the last two because everywhere else uses a different political system. I talked to some people in a city named Gaia, and somebody named Henry, who is over a hundred years old, told me that's how Sieve works. We were supposed to be summoned to their villages to overthrow Sieve, but Sieve got to us first." I told Fuki.

"I somehow don't doubt that... but how do we bring that up with the Kingdom? We expose them for lying and they'll kill us... wouldn't they? I'm just thinking. I believe you, Anima, but how can we prove it to the Kingdom?" He asked me.

"I'm not sure... we can't die and ruin this world otherwise... but how would we prompt the King with this information? It seems like we're trapped in an ongoing war." Fuki told me.

"You're right... I didn't think about a plan, but I knew I had to tell you." I said.

"I know we can't just leave here without an idea, but I excused myself to the bathroom to come here... Anima, I know this sucks right now, but we can't do anything. I'll keep this information in mind and refuse to kill the Humans on your side, but I can't just stage a revolution in this Kingdom without concrete evidence... you're not mad at me for that, right?" Fuki asked me. I shook my head.

"If we can preserve lives in any amount at all, we're doing our jobs. My job is complete if you don't kill anybody and stop others from killing." I told Fuki. We both seemed to have understood each other, so that was all I could ask for.

"What kind of evidence should I look for?" I asked him.

"Something that can't be disproven, I assume. Something you can use to convince the citizens, but I have no idea how dangerous we're diving into here. We have no business trying to fix this world, we're only here to save it. But, if we're going to play it dangerous, we need a better reputation on both the outside and inside. We have no validity yet... it'll take longer, and we need more evidence. I'm not sure what we should gather." Fuki explained.

I completely understood what he was talking about, we were simply just heroes. If the King saw fit, he could kill us and justify it, because he's the King. There's nothing that we can do against his word, not until we hold a reputation as high as his. It would take time... but how can we preserve the lives of the humans who live outside of Sieve?

"Hey... why were we told that they were Demons in the first place? What does Sieve gain from that?" Fuki asked me.

"Their political system spreading? I'm not entirely sure, but what I do know is that they have souls, just like the people in Sieve." I told Fuki.

"I see. We should train to become stronger. You can grow within the world outside of Sieve, I'll grow on the inside. When the time comes, we'll fix this world. I guess that's all we can do." Fuki suggested. I nodded, he was right. Knowing the things Henry told me wasn't enough to change this world I was summoned to protect.

"Well, I need to return, but we have a common goal now, right?" Fuki asked me. I nodded and walked off with my staff. I needed to learn skills, get stronger, and grow my reputation. "You be careful out there, Anima!" He added.

"You too, Fuki!" I yelled out. We both ran in our respective directions.

This is the world I had to deal with. I was going to be the Hero and do what I can a little at a time. My first step was to learn as many skills as possible, to level up, and make a name for myself. The people of Gaia considered me to be a great doctor, so maybe I can go around as a kind of healer for every nation. Either way, a goal was in sight.

I returned to the entrance of Gaia and the city continued as it normally did. It was a really long day, I was looking to get some rest, but they didn't have an Inn here, did they?

"Um, excuse me, do you have anywhere I can stay for the night?" I asked one of the citizens of Gaia. She nodded, telling me to take a right down the street and head for the building that's still lit up. I listened after thanking her, stepping in front of an old-looking saloon building. It was off-putting, but it would work.

"Uh... I would like to get a room... I don't have any money... but I can heal you..." I told the person behind the counter. Seeing a perfectly healthy young man was off-putting as well, as I now had nothing to offer him.

"It's fine. The first night is free, but if you trash the room, you'll clean every single one in this building." I thanked the man and walked to the side of the counter to get into the rooms near the inn.

As I laid down in the cheap-looking bed, I realized I probably could've stayed with Henry or Jerry, but it didn't even pass through my mind.

Tomorrow, I would start my training to become someone worthy of the Hero title!
