Bang!, Bang!, Bang!
The smell of gunpowder made its way into my nostrils. Another whole in one, I made my way to reload the gun.
"You learn at a terrifying pace" Nigel stood there watching my progress. It has been a week since I asked him to teach me how to be an assassin. He reluctantly agreed, we barely joked as we did before with me keeping my distance. I couldn't trust anyone again. I asked him who had sent him to kill us. He only gave me the name of the pack. He couldn't disclose too much information unless he would be hunted down. Also, he barely knew anything. I gritted my teeth facing the dummy board as I aimed for the location of the heart.
Bang
Thinking back to this morning when I confronted him on details of how I could get the information.
"There's a file at the headquarters where I used to work it contains all the info you need to find the person who requested your death and your mom's"
"Where is this place"
"It's very desolate and hard to find and even if you do get there they might not accept you. They are very picky when it comes to new candidates." He knew where I was headed with these questions. "It's a bad idea and very dangerous. Those people don't care about other people's lives, they are ruthless" he tried to reason with me.
"They were part in taking the person I had dear to me. I need answers and you're not going to give them to me so I'll look for them myself. It's not that I have anything to lose" I gave him a blank stare trying to say nothing was changing my mind.
I gripped the gun aiming it on the dummy.
Bang!.
I will find them no matter what.
I sat at the table, facing the mirror Nigel applied the blond wig on my head while I put on the green contacts. He adjusted the hair stepping back to take a look at his handwork. My duffel bag lay across the floor in the living room. I looked into the mirror. He did a good job. It must have been a line of work.
"Were you ever a hairdresser?" I asked, touching the braids he had done too.
He gave a cocky grin before saying.
"I always did my daughter's hair back then"
Today was the day
I was leaving here, the cabin I needed to make it on my own now. I wasn't sure how I was going to do it. I felt a sense of loss as I grabbed my duffel. I didn't want to go looking over to Nigel. I couldn't help but think about the times we had here. It brought both good and bad memories. After I had long thought about the whole incident about my past my anger was directed at the person whoever it was that wanted me dead. It feels like there are so many unsolved puzzles awaiting me on my journey.
"You look dorky"
I frowned but gave a sly smirk. "You should watch your mouth old man unless you can catch up" he sneered grumpily. We had fight training and he couldn't keep up. Let's just say someone is getting a little bit slow. I chuckled to myself, making him grumble more.his male ego was crushed.
"And I'm still in good shape you're just…..
" better than you" I retorted confidently, making him give me a death glare. Trying to hold in my laughter but failed miserably.
"You sly fox, next time we'll have a rematch I'll make you eat your words" I couldn't help but laugh at his threats. Maybe I am getting too cocky. Well, I have him to blame. The room got silent not knowing what else to say.
"I better be going now" I clutched my bag in front of me heading towards the door. Guess this is goodbye. I made it a few meters across the lawn before I heard him. Calling me. I turned back excitedly, maybe he wanted to come along with me, I hoped. He had a piece of paper in his palm outstretched to me.
"I forgot to give you this, I have a friend who could help you get in, he owes me one, I already contacted him that you're on your way. Remember don't use your real name and you can summon jane when you are in danger do not forget that. Is there anything I'm forgetting" he rambled to himself thinking as cautioned me? I nodded in affirmation. He sighed, dragging me in for a hug. I couldn't help but relax in his embrace without saying anything.
"I wish it didn't have to be this way we could keep living together, you don't have to do this," he mumbled, his chin resting above my head. I pulled away, missing the warm embrace.
"I have to….its the only way to avenge my mother" I looked away not wanting to meet his eyes.
"Promise me you won't get lost in revenge, I know perfectly well what that does to someone. It's not a good place."
I smiled, " sure I promise" he patted my head, I swatted his fingers, frowning "don't mess up the wig".
He rubbed the back of his palm. Looking pitiful. I couldn't help but give a low chuckle. I head off glancing back to see him one last time he waved at me, I wave back.
First, head to town, and get a bus that's heading to New towns city. And no I can't possibly run there not that I think it's impossible besides I'm supposed to be hiding my wolf. The walk wasn't long and I took my time soaking in the memories as I strolled along.
I got to the town's bus station, and I'm directed to a bus looking at the commercial photo on the side of the bus. A child laughed in her mother's arms as she wiped the food from her mouth with a warm smile. I went on the bus giving them my ticket. The ride was long. I stared out through the window, the trees passing by in a blur reminding me of my ride from the hospital to the orphanage so many years had passed. My eyes got heavy, it got hard to keep them open. Yawning deeply. My senses were over-cautious. I could feel Nigel's words get to me making me anxious. I played with my thumbs slowly succumbing to the fatigue that took over my body.
I felt someone try to touch me from behind half-conscious. I reached out to grab the unknown person by the arm, waking up in full alert. I stared at a startled girl trying to claw away from my strong grip. My eyes widened in shock as I immediately let go apologizing.
" I just wanted to inform you the bus had stopped" I took a look at my surroundings, noticing we had actually come to a stop. I apologized once more as she left. Stepping out of the vehicle I glanced at the buildings not used to the fact that they were taller than normal.
