Chapter 73 - Close to truth

"You never won against me."

Raspy voice scoffed. Edward breathed heavily as he bled.

"I know."

Black smoke around Mehmet, fixing his destroyed armor.

"Even without any mana, your martial skills were out of this world."

Edward sighed.

"Now that you have mana…"

Mehmet walked slowly closer.

"You don't have to die. Tell me where he is."

Edward laughed.

"You really are handful. Do you actually think you are the only one that gained new powers?"

A massive pillar made out of bright light descended towards Edward.

"I am the Sword Saint. Owner of Excalibur."

He grabbed the sword in center of the light.

"If you think that you can beat me like a stray dog, you are bloody wrong."

All the lights around them were gone out. No. All of them were suppressed by the light coming from the Excalibur. Entire city light up as if it was in middle of the light.

"This is strongest holy sword. Let's see if you can beat me this time! Sword Art-"

Edward changed his stance. Ground beneath him shook and broke. Light which lit entire city was focused in the sword he was holding.

"I accept your challenge."

Just like how light was focused Edward's sword, darkness which shouldn't even exist due Edward's light merged with the sword Mehmet was holding.

"-Never Setting Sun!"

"Purgatory Thrust."

As they clashed, entire city block was destroyed.

"What the hell?"

"Put magic barriers! Use your defensive skills!"

Theodoros shouted. Magician type hunters created countless magical barriers as shockwaves and explosions covered us.

"He unleashed power of Excalibur in middle of city? What kind of enemy is he facing?"

Theodoros asked. So that was the power of a Legend? It destroyed buildings all around us. Even the barriers magicians put were mostly destroyed even though attack wasn't directed towards us.

"Edward?"

Even though dust and rubbles blocked our way, I could see him.

"No!"

Focusing mana towards my legs, I jumped and started to run. I also pulled my bow and arrows.

"Get away from him, you undead son of a bitch!"

"Wait, stop!"

Theodoros shouted after me. I didn't stop. I shot several arrows. Black Calamity was holding bloodied Edward by the throat. His armor was destroyed in most parts, revealing rotten flesh. My arrows got stuck on his flesh yet he didn't seemed to be bothered by it. It was not until an arrow fell towards him like a meteor that he moved back, throwing Edward to ground. I wasn't the one that shot that arrow. It was Theodoros. With one jump he managed catch up to me.

"You are here."

His voice sent shivers down my spine.

"I am here to kick your ass!"

"Burak, no!"

Edward managed to mutter. He was covered in blood. One deep glance revealed me that his internal organs were damaged.

"You should have killed yourself to save face. I at least expected that from my blood."

"Wha…"

What did he say? What is he talking about? I remembered our first meeting. He knew about my grandfather. I also remembered a council member asking me my relationship with him. Same way of mana circulation… I felt my head spin. Could it be…

"Don't falter. You."

Theodoros stepped in front of me.

"I don't know who are you but you will die here."

"And you will kill me? If you are a real hunter you should start the monster at your back!"

Rather than answering him with words Theodoros shot arrows faster than sound.

"Get Edward and carry him to healers! I will handle him!"

"This is mi-"

"That was an order!"

Even though I wanted to fight against Black Calamity, he was right. Edward was wounded severely. He needed medical help while someone held the line. Losing someone as strong as him would be a huge blow to humanity. I leaped to where Edward was.

"You are not getting away!"

I felt the unbearable stench of death hit my body. He was nearly an inch away from me. Just before his sword hit me, an arrow whistled and sent him flying. I grabbed Edward.

"You shouldn't. You…"

He was trying to say something.

"It is okay. Healers must be close. We will get you out of there."

It felt weird comforting someone like Edward. I felt the similar feeling of comforting my parents that I was okay. They were the people that should been comforting me yet our roles were switched in blink of an eye.

"You are protecting a monster? A vampire?"

"Funny an undead says that."

"You are not suprised?"

"Do you think this is first time I seen a vampire? I knew he was a vampire at first glance."

So he knew about vampires. No wonder he wasn't suprised about werewolves.

"Then why do you defend him?"

"Why wouldn't I? He is a fellow hunter."

"He is a monster."

"You are the one attacking us. In my eyes you are the only monster here."

"Very well. Die then."

I tried to grab Edward in a way that wouldn't damage him any further. Yet it was hard due how many wounds he had. Scent of blood caused me salivate.

"I am seriously pathetic."
