Chapter 43: Four More To Go
........
'Holy crap it's creepy in here, Ian is fucking insane.' Barney somehow found himself within the facility, all through legal means, very legal means.
He was escorted by a security guard inside. The area was tightly guarded, so sneaking in is incredibly hard, you'd find it better to use force.
Barney appeared quite fit, attired with a black formal suit. He also had glasses on and a simple haircut making him look like a professional, in this case, a psychiatrist.
Soon he found himself escorted to a simple white room. It had a white table within and two chairs, and nothing sharp was in the vicinity.
The guard left him there for a while, but then came back with what looked like a patient, a dangerous patient. The reason for such a conclusion is his attire, a straight jacket specifically used for people who may harm themselves or others, limiting their freedom.
The guard helped the patient sit down and then left the chamber without a word. The patient stared at who appeared to be his new doctor, "Hmm, new here?"
Barney nodded while opening a notebook, "I am Neil, and you are Jonathan Crane, once a psychology professor, now a mental patient."
Jonathan moved his head to the best of his ability, "Indeed, that'd be me. Now hmmm, I can't help but find it strange for my usual doctor to change without prior notice, don't you think it is strange?"
Barney glanced at him and ignored his question, "Also titled Scarecrow for his desire to bring fear upon people, but fortunately, you were brought down by Batman."
"Hmmm, this is definitely strange..." Only a bit of his face can be seen through the straight jacket, and his eyes were quite apparent due to how red they were as if he hadn't slept for days, the incredibly dark spots beneath them were another proof of that.
"You're most certainly insane though you seem quite clear-headed." Barney couldn't help but remark after being reminded of a certain person.
"Insane? Me? No no no, I am not insane, I just see... things they don't, things they wish they can see, but only I can... You'll just don't understand." He did his best to shake his head while speaking in his scratchy voice.
"I see, I guess he's different, too different. He's the most clear-headed person I know but I guess he's a tiny bit insane. That's why his plans are always so fucking bizarre." Barney muttered to himself.
"Hm? Who are you talking about?" Scarecrow questioned in curiosity.
"My boss, the one who sent me here which brings me to my reason for being here. My boss would like to ask you for a favor, a charity of sorts."
"Hmmm hahaha, I see. I saw right, this is strange. What kind of charity does he need?" He seemed quite amused by the situation, so he decided to humor Barney.
"Well, I don't really know," Barney's words definitely got Scarecrow's attention as the former continued, "He told me to tell if you can make something possible. I guess he appreciates whatever it is that you do? Don't do."
"Make what possible? Speak." Scarecrow was almost too eager to hear the answer.
"He said he wanted an innovation from you. Instead of making someone taste fear with your chemical thing, he wants that someone to lose fear. Can you make that possible?"
Scarecrow was silent for a while, perhaps contemplating the words before he spoke, "I should be ready in a week. I also want to meet your boss, so tell him to have a similar meeting with me at the time, and the cost is letting me free."
"Wait... You can make it in here?? How?" Barney certainly didn't expect that, and only then did he understand something Ian told him.
"It doesn't matter, just do as I say and we shall be good."
"Ah, about that... No. The boss has already told me that he won't set you free. He told me this is a charity, and I guess I really didn't understand how much he meant that. He wants you to do it for free."
Barney's words made Scarecrow's eyes flinch as the latter questioned after a few seconds, "How? How did he know I can make it in here?"
"I don't know. Perhaps because he's a bit crazy, so he understands other crazy people?"
"That makes no sense..."
"Yeah yeah, whatever you say. Anyway, what do you say, you gonna do it?" Perhaps Barney realized he was being a bit rude as he added, "He also said his goal is something which will cause a tiny bit of chaos? Not sure."
On the other side of the city, Ian was on his way to the coffee, the bags were still in the trunk of his car, and his other men already spread throughout the east end to continue their work.
He got to the coffee where Ralf was already waiting for him with two underlings. They picked up the bags and delivered them inside.
He made his way to his room and took a shower before changing his clothes.
He wore a long-sleeved white shirt and comfy pale grey pants. His dark hair was still a bit wet and wavy and his skin was fair and clear which is surprising for someone with such an adventurous life.
He does take care of himself a lot and even after arriving in this world, he still continued to work out regularly, just not as much as before.
There were however clues to his past adventures, scars not only on his knees, arms but also on his back, some bigger than the others. He was used to breaking his bones regularly, unintentionally of course... I guess It was kind of intentional.
He picked up his phone to see how things went on barney and Mike's side, then noticed a message from Selina asking whether he was home and free.
He responded, telling her to meet him in the collection chamber before heading there himself, finding the bags placed right next to the metallic door, waiting for him to put them inside.
He walked up to one of the glass cases and gazed at what's within, his most favored item, the dead hell scroll.
"I have yet to see your secrets for myself, but hopefully Selina brings me some good news, she really went all out for me huh, it's been a whole week and a half."
It wasn't long before Selina arrived, attired in her favorite catsuit, and she looked just as gorgeous as always.
Her mischievousness seemed to reawaken the moment she laid eyes on him. She eyed him from top to bottom as she licked her lip, then she spoke, "Hmm, I don't know how, but I swear you're getting more and more handsome every time I see you. Well, what do you say handsome, miss me?"
Ian couldn't help but let out a chuckle as he approached her, a nice smile was on his face, too many nice things have happened in the past few days, so how could he hold it in.
He just approached her then hugged her tightly before whispering in her ear, "I did miss you, naughty cat."
His words not only surprise her but also embarrassed her as she buried her head in his chest, "What's with you all of a sudden?"
"Hmm, I wonder? I am probably just high with satisfaction, too many nice things are happening, but I will go back to how I am usually is soon."
"I don't mind this, how you are now I mean,"
"I guess I don't mind it as well, I remember I used to get high with excitement when rock climbing or any of the other crazy adventurous I go through, but I always end up doing something dangerous.
I then end up breaking a bone or getting stuck somewhere for a while, that usually gives me a good dosage of clarity but that didn't happen for quite a while."
Ian let out a little laugh in remembrance, a laugh shared by Selina before she questioned with curiosity, "Weren't you stuck in the tomb for a few days just recently?"
Ian shook his head in amusement, "That... You just don't know, but all I have to say is that wasn't nearly as bad as some of the other times."
Selina stared at him weirdly for a second before remarking, "I can see you doing some pretty crazy stuff, so I believe that. I guess it's my job to make your life even better, so here is my gift for you."
She happily spoke as she pulled something from her small bag, a small brown container, "Here."
Ian took it into his hand and glanced at her noticing the anticipation in her eyes. He opened the container and found exactly what he had hoped for, but that didn't make him any less happy.
He carefully walked towards the dead hell scroll case, opened it, and placed the things in the container within, two different pieces of paper found their place back where they belong. Ian took a deep breath and murmured, "Four more to go."
Ian really wanted to look through them and study the new papers, but he knew better. He had his priorities straight.
He turned around eyeing Selina who looked even happier than he was, happier for him. Ian couldn't help but let out a sigh, "Just how much cuter can you get?"
He then walked up to her and picked her up in his arms, making her yelp in surprise, "W-what?" She stuttered.
"I remember how a certain naughty cat made fun of me because of my condition, but now that it has been solved, I'd say she deserves a punishment, wouldn't you say?"
