Mariah took off for the hospital as early as she could, she had an appointment with her doctor, she did a test and the results were out. It was the sixth hospital she visited that month, she needed to find out if she was barren, as that's what all the hospitals she visited said. She was at the hospital but her doctor didn't get around, due to some untold reasons so she had to wait for him at the reception. There are heard her phone ring, "Hello," it was Caitlyn wood over the phone
"Hello Mariah, how are you?"
"I'm good and you?" Mariah asked.
"Where are you now?"
"At the hospital,"
"Okay!" Caitlyn said coldly.
Though Mariah was stressed about her results, she noticed Caitlyn was cold towards her, Mariah knew she was troubled. The usual Caitlyn was always joyful but her last call never reflected that joy. Being curious, she asked what was going on, and Caitlyn who could not tell her what she saw over the phone ask to meet her as soon as she is done at the hospital, "you are getting me worried now, I hope is not something serious?" Mariah asked as she was afraid.
"Hey I can't promise you anything but we'll talk about that later when you come over." Caitlyn voiced out.
Mariah dropped the call and in some few seconds, the doctor walked into the hospital, he noticed Mariah had been waiting on him for so long "Hey Mrs. Easton, I'm sorry for the delay, we may now go to my office," Mariah followed the doctor to his office hoping to get positive results. Once in his office, he removed the kept document which was under some files and handed them over to Mariah, before she opened it, she made the sign of the cross and later on opened it, but the results were still the same, it stipulated that she was barren. Troubled about this, she sank into depression. "Hey madame doesn't let this bother you, the doctor said while consoling her.
"You don't know what just a child stands for me, or what it represents for my husband and mother-in-law," Mariah said in tears.
"I think you can discuss with your husband and his mom, they might want to consider adopting kids, today we have numerous kids been abandoned, and you adopting them won't be a bad idea."
Mariah never took the doctor's idea seriously, because she knew it was a no-go area, Jane was a woman of principle and would never have accepted such, neither would her husband. He always said having his baby was his priority and not raising someone else's child, she knew she had to keep suggestions as such far from them. She left the hospital all disappointed and contacted her friend Caitlyn who wasn't leaving far away from the hospital. She arrived her home all tired and desperate, "I guess the results still the same as previously?"
"Yes!" Mariah said gently. "So what did you have to tell me that you couldn't say over the phone?"
Caitlyn got worried when Mariah needed to know why she called on her, seeing her in that state, she could not reveal to her that she met her husband and her half-sister at the hotel spending some quality time together, she had to lie so she could keep a joyful face. "Hey you know I'm the funny type, I called because I wanted to see you and I knew expressing myself in that tone was going to make you pass by."
"Okay if you say so, cause I was afraid," Mariah mumbled. It hurt Caitlyn lying to Mariah but for the sake of peace and her tranquility, she had no other choice than to tell her a lie. Telling her Neil was cheating on her with Khloe after receiving bad news was going to depress her more. "So tell me, is your husband in the city?"
"No, he traveled four days ago for some business reasons and will be back only tomorrow, I don't know how I'm going to inform him that the results are negative," Mariah cried out. "So Neil lied to his wife saying he was on a business trip whereas he is in the city with Khloe, men are cruel," Caitlyn murmured to herself. "What did you say?" Mariah asked as she didn't get what Caitlyn said.
"Nothing don't mind, but I have this question. What if one morning you realize that Neil has been cheating on you with someone really close to you, what will be your reaction?" Caitlyn asked while looking straight into her eyes, waiting to listen to her answer.
"Oops! Neil can't cheat on me, besides I don't think he will imagine having a kept woman, my husband loves me so much and has demonstrated it several times, so when it comes to that, I have nothing serious to tell you." Mariah mentioned with a little smile on her face.
"If you say so then that's great!" Caitlyn was aggrieved seeing her friend putting all her trust in a man. It therefore sank into her head that she wasn't the one to inform Mariah what she had been hiding away from her. Four hours later, she begged to take her leave, standing and waiting for Caitlyn who dashed into her room to wear something decent so she could escort her to the gate. Mariah's phone rang, just when she checked who was calling, she noticed it was her aunty and she taught she was calling for her pocket allowance. "Hello my daughter,"
"Hello aunty, please I'm sorry with all the stress I forgot to send some cash for your medications.
"That's not why I'm calling darling, where are you now and with who?" Iren asked.
"I'm with Caitlyn but I'm on my way home now,"
"Please sit cause I have something serious to let you know,"
"What's that, you are scaring me now," Mariah said in fear.
"Your husband called me this morning, saying he will be divorcing you, and I thought of letting you know about it." Mariah smiled when she heard this from her aunt. "Which husband are you talking about because it can't be Neil, my husband told me four days ago before traveling that he was madly in love with me, so I'm not sure," Mariah mentioned.
Caitlyn was done in her room and was now downstairs, she met Mariah smiling and asked what made her smile and she told her the discussion she just had with her aunt. "And you think that's funny? Your aunt called to inform you of such a decision taken by Neil and instead of verifying if that's true, you are here busy smiling?"
"Why shouldn't I? Neil has proven uncountable times that we will always be into me," she mentioned.
