Chapter 4 - Chapter 3: Rain

[1 year later]

I'm finally starting to get accustomed somewhat to this body, crawling as a baby is much harder than it seems. The reason I'm trying to crawl and get accustomed to my body as soon as possible, is because we have a library or study room in our house, and I want to go in there to try and learn more about this world.

After a few days of coming up with plans to get out of my tiny prison, I found a way to do it that I remember from a certain novel I read. First I throw my blanket onto the floor to make as little noise when I fall and to also cushion me.

Next I used a move I learned when I used to mess around with some good ol' MMA and used my body weight and momentum to lift and pull myself over the railing of my crib.

I think I landed on my ass, managing to make as little noise as possible when falling. I would probably give myself a six out of ten, it could use some improvements but for my limited options it was pretty good.

I tried to stand up and I managed to level myself for a moment before I fell over again. 'Fucking stupid baby legs won't let me god damn stand.'

I decided to just crawl my way to the study room, which isn't that far from where I am since this house is on the rather small end. It's pretty cozy and nice so I don't have any complaints.

I made it to the study room after crawling for a bit and looking at the shelf of books, I grabbed a book that looked like it would be useful seeing how thick it was.

This world is interesting because I recognize a lot of the names and words here since I've also heard of them back on Earth before I died, I was quite the lore and mythology nutcase when I was younger so I knew quite a bit about Greek, Norse, Pagan, Aztec, Mayan, Egyptian, Irish, Scottish, and they seem to also be in this world.

A lot of the creatures viewed as myths and legends back in my old world are viewed as truth and facts. It's quite bizarre but it makes me excited thinking about it.

I read some more of what can be found in this world and found that this world is called Aion, The Land of Ancients. Quite the fitting name seeing how the gods rule over this, but something seems off since the Greek Gods names are the most prominent in this world, I will have to do research about that sometime.

I continue to read and discover the races of this world, the races consistent of many such as humans, orcs, elves, dwarves, beastkin, merfolk, lizardmen, giants, demons and lastly angels? How do angels fit into this when gods are in the mix? It doesn't say much since apparently not much is known about this race since the last time they appeared was when a catastrophe nearly caused the demise of the world.

I also make the assumption that this world called Aion is around fifteen times the size of Earth. How do I know this? Well I know this because the smallest city or kingdom is about twice the size of the entirety of Europe. How I know this, I do not know either, just guessing from how it stated that over two billion people reside in that one kingdom makes it a fair assumption.

It is stated in the book that the energy that runs through every living thing, every cell and organism that exists in this world is called Mana. Mana is the essence of what makes the impossible possible. With the existence of these creatures that were just myth back on earth, they became reality here, same with Magic Beasts, but that name depends on the region you find yourself in, they are called Mystic Beasts.

There are also two types of alchemy which are known in this world, which are quite similar to my favorite anime, Alchemy and Alkahestery. Alchemy is what is to be believed as 'science' and facts, it also has the saying 'To obtain, something of equal value must be lost'. Alkahestery is what is referred to as 'medical' and purification, there are many branches of Alkahestery, while it is a medical and medicine type alchemy, they are also quite proficient in combat, but not as much as Alchemists.

While I'm thinking about where I remember that from since it sounds so familiar, I'm suddenly lifted off the ground and then I realize that I was reading that book for a quite some time, my mother is giving me an odd look, probably trying to figure out how I got out or if I can actually understand the words written on the pages.

'Now that I think about it...how am I reading when I don't even know the language? Fuck probably should've paid more attention to that than the elf section of the book.' I sigh and swallow in my own stupidity. 'Not my fault I want to see an elf.'

"Art, now what are you doing?" Mother says while shaking her head in confusion. "You also stink, did you accidentally perform some business while messing around little Arty?"

'Sniff. Sniff. Shit I did manage to crap myself, how did I not notice?' My face contorts in disgust after realizing the smell coming from my rear-end.

After I get cleaned up from my mess from my uncontrollable bowels, we have dinner since it seemed to reach that time while I was engrossed with the book on this world. '`Haaa, hopefully I can become someone decent in this world and not a deadbeat gambler like my old life.' I sigh while being fed what looks like bland porridge. It's not like we're poor, but we sure do live in such a small town it seems in a world so large.

It doesn't seem to look like we're commoners, but it also doesn't seem like we're nobles, hmmm I would have to guess, some sort of low ranking noble or knight, I say knight because my father seems to be quite the swordsman.

I have seen him practice from time to time and his moves all look fluid and smooth, it's quite the sight to behold, but since I've never even touched a sword in my life, my thoughts aren't much to it. I wonder when my father will let me learn the sword, actually before that. Am I any good with a sword?

The weapons I really want to try and master or just be proficient in are the sword, bo staff, daggers and bow. The reason bo staff is there and not a spear or some other weapon, well it's more of personal preference since I actually learned how to use one decently back on Earth when I was younger.

**

[In a space separate from the world]

A creature lifts its head up from a deep slumber, its eyes are crimson red on the left and crystal blue on the right.

"Interesting, never thought one of those would be born into this world again, we shall see where you go young one."

The creature once more lowers its head and its breath becomes nearly inaudible as if it is nearly dead.

**

My parents were feeding me dinner which was quite honestly tiring since Conrad, my father kept marveling about my eyes while trying to feed me and dropped a bunch of the food. My mother then threw an ice spike at him and he narrowly dodged it.

While scolding her husband, she took the food from his hand and while glaring at him for a moment, went on to feed me the rest of my meal.

A while later I began to hear the pitter patter of rain. I was currently resting in my crib while it began. The silence was immense but also peace, it calmed me to a point where I was almost in a meditative state.

While this was occurring within my body without me knowing, a force was starting to come together, they were small but shined brilliantly, they looked colorless but at the same time full of color.

They looked as if they were scattered shards, they began to piece and merge together into one.

This process went on for the whole night while he was sleeping, while it seemed like a lot, in reality it was a minuscule amount of mana. It was to the point where it would barely be able to be traceable, but it was the start of something unordinary, but then again, this is a world of unordinary and ancient things.

When I awoke from my sleep it was the next day and I had woken up because a loud and sharp yell every so often appeared. Judging from the deep tone it's my father, but what is he doing this god damn early?

-Whoosh

'Whoosh? Is he swinging a sword?' I groggily sit up trying to see if I can find a spot to figure out what my father is doing.

"Do you want to see what your daddy is doing sweetie?" My mother asks out of nowhere, I didn't even notice her until she spoke.

I nod my head fervently in affirmation. I think I bring my arms up in a way that gestures to be picked up. My mother understood and proceeded to pick me up and bring me to a window overlooking the yard.

We had quite a large yard, but that could be because we lived in the country, it was peaceful and nice. In the middle of the yard was my father holding a sword which looked to be around four or five feet long. It was well taken care of and looked to have seen many fights.

His movements almost reminded me of an ocean, it was full of power yet at times it was peaceful. His hair which had turned more crimson than before was sticking to his forehead from sweat, his muscles and veins were bulging.

A red and orange hue started to surround his body as his movements progressed, a streak of energy started to follow his sword as he continued to swing and slash with his sword. My eyes widened as I watched this happen before my eyes my only thoughts were 'Can I be this strong' and 'What is that hue surrounding his body? Is it Aura or Mana that you read in novels?'

"When your father used to be at the academy, he was at the top of his class, or well would have been if he didn't get kicked out" Mother said with a melancholic smile.

She didn't say more after that which ticked me off but I couldn't do much. As we watched my father practicing his swordsmanship, we noticed the clouds moving in with much darkness and clearly able to see the rain falling in the distance.

That night, it rained the hardest that has ever been seen in this town.
