Chapter 2 - A New Worry

That's when I finally found out the truth. She was born with pink hair almost as any royal princess would be. Except her hair was different. It contained magic. Magic that no one had seen before. She begged me not to tell anyone and I agreed. I was hoping to ask her out or maybe even ask if she'll date me, but now that could never happen. I wasn't magical or royal I was just a normal elf teen.

As the day went on, I couldn't accept the fact that a princess would choose me over any other elf. I think that she could sense that I was feeling uneasy, so she asked me if I was okay. I tried to brush it off, but apparently it wasn't working. When it came time for me to go to work, she asked me if I was in the mood to go to work. While I knew I wasn't I also knew that we needed money.

When I got back home dinner was sitting on the table and her with a cup of hot chocolate. She asked me if I wanted some. It felt like she was trying to be nicer to me. I didn't know why, but just seeing her smile made me feel amazing. I felt relaxed, comfortable even. When I laid my head on the table, I felt her hand stroke my hair. I didn't want this feeling to end.

After we finished eating dinner, she looked nervous, almost like she has had something on her mind for a while now. "Hey what's wrong?", I asked in a soft manor. She looked up to me like she was going to cry. "They're going to come looking for me", she said. I could hear the crack in her voice.

"w-wh-what?", I replied she seemed as if she had tears in her eyes. I got close to her and gave her a hug. When she hugged back, I realized that she was crying. Her eyes were now flooded with tears. "Please don't let them take me" she begged me. I sighed "alright I won't." I knew what this meant if we got caught too. She would be forced to be married and bred like a dog. And as for me, I would be sentenced to death for sheltering a runaway princess.

As her tears came to an end so did her energy. She looked me in my eye and decided to ask me a very strange question. "If the day comes, will you please take me as your wife" I froze for a few minutes. I felt a lump in my throat. I hadn't expected her to ask me that. By the time I got a word in my head she was already asleep. I took off my day clothes and put on my night one. As I joined her in the bed, she whispered to me "if it wasn't for my blood maybe we could be an actual couple."

I had never heard her say that kind of stuff to me before. Maybe she actually loved me? Instead, here I was pushing her feelings away. I couldn't fall asleep the thought of me and her being together kept crossing my mind. After a while she noticed how I was still awake. "what's on your mind?" she asked me in a soft but puzzled voice. I think she could tell that I wasn't getting much sleep because just after she had said that she curled up next to me.

The warmth of her body mixed with the warmth of the sheet was enough to make me fall asleep. It felt like a hazy dream. I couldn't tell if she was being serious about wanting to date me or if she was just seeing if I was going to use her. I would hope that day would never come if she would be taken away from me or if I was overprotective. Either way I couldn't help this feeling.

It had been about a week since that incident happened. I was starting to get concerned when she wasn't eating as much or taking less showers. Did something bad happen. After my morning shower was when I started getting concerned even more. She wasn't eating her pancakes. Even if she wasn't hungry, she could still find room for those. "Hey, I'm going to work" I called out.

The day had been rough. There were knights everywhere. Every single place I looked there was someone from the palace. I couldn't figure out why they waited this long to start looking for her. Then it hit me. She wasn't only the princess; she was the reason that we had won the war. Now that a war was approaching, she was the key to winning this. I hadn't realized where I was going when I accidently bumped into a guard. When I looked up the man was stern. Too stern.
