Reden keeps looking through window while eating bread with little chews. He looks for around 15 minutes. Gah-Hal is still lying on the bed calm but this time he isn't moving as much as he moved before. He just looks in random ways around him. The room stays totally quiet. Nothing except of sounds from the outside can be heard in the room.
Finally, the silence stops as Reden gasps. He gets closer to the window almost touching it and looks with a little shock on his face.
"Oh my..." Reden says with eyes wide open.
Thing that took his attention is platoon of knights marching on road towards the same gate that Reden entered the town. All these knights are marching together smoothly which looks amazing and professional. They keep marching until the gate of the town opens and after a while they all leave and gate closes again.
"Reinforcements or change of position? Both of these doesn't mean anything good. Is fort conquered?" Reden says it with eyes wide open. He starts breathing faster.
"We need to get out of here. This town is probably the one of the next things on dwarves way to Singard capital." As Reden says it he finishes his bread, packs the second bread and wooden bottle into the small sack he got from shopping, picks up Gah-Hal and leaves the inn immediately.
"I dont want to risk. We are going further and I am lacking coins right now. I have another idea in mind." Reden says it to himself this time with a little anger on his face as he leaves the room.
Before he leaves the inn he locks the door with keys, goes to innkeep, places the keys on the bar and leaves the inn. Reden goes the opposite site from where he got into the city. Eventually he reaches the second gate at the other side of the town and he is once again about to be asked by knights guarding the gates.
Same thing is being said and done and Reden is allowed to leave the town. Once gates open he immediately follows the path while holding his son in his arms still with anger on his face with vibrating eyelid once each few seconds. He keeps going and going until he sees the two paths. Left path leads through the forest and path forward leads through highlands and hills.
Reden without thinking even a second chooses the left path leading into the forest. As he reaches the forest he turns right somewhere in the middle of forest and walks that way for a few minutes. The forest is so thick that sunlight barely goes through the trees making it harder to see anything around.
After few minutes of walking away from main path Reden stops and places the baby on flat rock. He picks up one of the sharp looking stones from nearby and... hits the branches. He uses the stone to hit and sometime even cut the tree branches. He does it to five branches then temporarily stops to place them around the Gah-Hal. He then continues gathering more and more until he has 50 of them.
"I'm glad that survival training happend." Reden says it to himself with no sign of fatigue visible on him.
He digs few not too deep holes in the ground and places the branches in them. It's now obvious he's trying to make a shelter from all these sticks he gathered. He builds it smoothly and it looks good so far.
24 minutes have passed and he somehow finished the shelter from sticks and leaves that is big enough to fit 3 adults inside. It's impressive how quickly he managed to build it.
Reden was always cautious of the surroundings while also very often looking at his child lying on the stone. He then picks Gah-Hal up and places him in the shelter which is also looking quite cozy from the inside.
After infant is put into the shelter, Reden uses branches that were left from building to prepare a firecamp for a night with chance to scare away wild animals.
Reden finished preparing the firecamp and gets into the shelter in which Gah-Hal is still very calm.
"You are 2 days old and I've never heard you cry yet. Hehe... You are gonna grow up as strong warrior." Reden says it jokingly but also with hope that he is right about the future part.
𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆, 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴
Reden came back to shelter after a quick fruit and berry gathering. He placed the gathered resources inside and started to light the firecamp after seeing how dark it got. He took some dry sticks and started rubbing them into eachother.
Fire appeared but it happend way too early as Reden didn't even rub them long enough. A little confused he placed the burning sticks into the campfire and flame started to spread into other sticks making the fire longer.
"Oh. Well that was quick. I got so lucky since war started." Reden says proud of himself.
He then backs up a little and watches as the fire spreads through the campfire. Once hearth is half in flames, Reden goes back to shelter. He sits on his bed made out of leaves and few small stones and takes the wooden bottle out of the sack while placing Gah-Hal on his laps.
He places the bottle next to baby's mouth ready to feed him. Infant opens mouth and starts drinking the liquid in the bottle through bottle soother.
"Thankfully its not that cold. Temperature of drink is within the limits of "healthy"." Reden thinks to himself.
What Gah-Hal drinks right now is not a milk but special type of juice created especially for babies "without" mothers. This juice has almost same effects as normal mother's milk. For people above 5 years old this liquid starts to taste worse after time, but for babies it's as tasty as milk... Probably.
After few minutes of baby drinking from the bottle, it becomes empty. Strange because there was half of the juice left in the bottle.
"Wait. Already? Were you really that hungry? Why didn't you cry then?" Reden confused by his son drinking everything so quickly.
"Damn. Your belly really seems capacious." Reden says as he puts the bottle back into the sack.
Reden then starts to lap bounce the baby as he thinks worried.
"This is troublesome. I wasted my coins on my own food instead of the juice for Gah-Hal when I could just get food for me myself for free. God damn Im so reckless." Reden thinks to himself with his eyes filled with guilt.
After few minutes Reden puts Gah-Hal on his small bed and then lies down on his own bigger bed. He thinks for a while and looks at the firecamp through the little hole in the shelter.
"Should I risk going for more juice or should I risk waiting until tommorow and then going?" Reden thinks to himself while still looking at firecamp with flames getting bigger.
As fire reaches the maximum height from campfire Reden stands up and leaves the shelter. He stand outside and faces at his built hut. Then he claps once and puts his hands together like he's about to pray.
"I have to try." Reden speaks quietly.
"𝗔𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴" Reden speaks out quite loud.
Suddenly the soil under the hut starts to glow...
