"My father won't be that irresponsible with the company that he built from scratch!"
Matthew heard the denial in his wife's voice and he could not help himself but chimed in.
"Actually, your grandfather handed him the business and he did quite well in running it—until the day he got it on the brink of bankruptcy."
He watched Lilly Rose puff a huge sigh of annoyance with what he said and a small part of his brain—one that didn't want to be the second best, scoffed in jealousy with his father-in-law. He wishes that his wife could be that loyal to him and if possible to him only.
But then, he knew that he was being irrational. It's not the time to be childish and try to compete with his wife's adoration of her father. Maybe not now, but later, he thought to himself.
Definitely later, he promised himself.
