"Why are you here?" She asked, looking over his broad shoulder.
"I told Pete to have a day off. Hence, I'm the one picking you up."
Lilly Rose narrowed her eyes on her husband and unconsciously folded her arms over her chest, a subtle action of protecting herself.
She kept her eyes on Matthew's face trying to read the truth of his words but gave up.
Matthew is a seasoned businessman. He can tuck away his inner thoughts and kept his expression blank as a freshly opened ream of bond paper.
"Here, they are for you. I'm not quite sure what flowers you like and the florist suggests this wild summer bouquet. They are quite pretty, don't you think?"
Lilly Rose blushed. She didn't know how to accept the bouquet because her arms were glued to her chest. She had a feeling that if she reached out for the flowers that Matthew was handing, he would take them back and he would say, it was just a joke, that they were not for her.
