Chapter 4 - A mistake

Michael jumped in the middle of the trajectory of the neck-chain covered in red light to protect Ciara covering her with his body, causing the mysterious neck chain to hit Michael's body.

As Michael and Ciara were yet to face a life and death situation, due to human instinct and fear, they shut their eyes.

As soon as the neck-chain covered in red light hit Michael's back it disappeared, the red light stopped glowing, the mysterious neck-chain disappeared as if it never existed.

The siblings still had their eyes shut as they were too scared.

Suddenly Michael heard a voice in his mind,

"No!...No...no....how could this happen?"

"You puny insignificant ant, do you even comprehend what you have done?"

The voice silenced for a few moments before continuing,

"How could I make such a foolish mistake?"

At first, the voice sounded to be enraged and furious, but soon it seemed to be calm at the same time it seemed to be aggrieved and despairful.

"Due to my single mistake, we all will perish."

"All the plans, all the grand schemes were destroyed in a single moment. Not by a god, not by an intent-user, it was all destroyed by a puny mortal who is yet to start cultivation."

"In the end we all perish....*sigh* My powers are fading away, I don't even have enough power to maintain my conscience not to mention that I don't have enough power to choose another candidate."

"With this trash talent of his there is no way this boy can even reach the bare minimum of what is required even if he somehow manages to achieve the requirements, there will be several candidates much more talented than this boy. He whatsoever does not have any chance."

The voice let out a groan before it spoke again,

"I can't maintain my conscience anymore, looks like my time has also come. I seemed to have used a lot of energy while coming here, to this realm."

This voice belonged to the conscience of the mysterious neck-chain, which hit Michael's back. It was something that was even coveted by the gods from the true god realm.

Day by day, year by year, decade by decade, century by century passed since it had been travelling across the cosmos, trying to find itself a suitable and talented candidate. Before it faded away, it finally managed to find itself a suitable candidate after 21,000 years, but in the end he made a foolish mistake and entered someone's body who was far from being a suitable candidate.

The conscience of the mysterious black neck-chain spoke in a weak tone before it faded away,

"*sigh* I can do nothing but hope for the best, the rest is up to you."

As the conscience of the mysterious black neck-chain faded Michael and Ciara slowly opened their eyes, and separated from each other.

While examining her body Ciara spoke in a low confused tone,

"Are you fine, Michael? where is that black neck-chain, what happened to it?"

"I...seemed to be fine." Michael responded with a surprised tone,

Michael expected himself to die assuming that the fire wall around it burned a magical beast alive. To his surprise not only was he not dead he did not even have a single scratch on his body.

Michael abruptly started looking around trying to find the neck-chain and the source of the voice he heard.

"I don't know where that neck-chain is, it seemed to have disappeared. More importantly, we should get out of here, the city authorities are probably on their way here." Michael said as he did not want to get himself or his family in any kind of trouble that involved intent-users and city authorities.

Ciara agreed with him as it had already been an eventful day for them and they had already witnessed many weird things in a single day.

They started moving back the same way they came from. On their way back Michael seemed to be thinking about something with a deep frown on his forehead.

Michael abruptly questioned Ciara,

"Did you hear any voice after that neck-chain shot towards you?"

Ciara replied to him and asked in a concerned tone,

"No, did something happen? You have a frown on your forehead since we left the crash-site."

"No, nothing happened." Michael replied before going silent again, thinking about something.

After a few minutes of travelling, they reached back to the residential area, the western part of the city. They were currently standing in front of their house.

Before Ciara could push open the door and enter the house Michael caught her hand and said,

"Hey, don't you find it weird that there is no panic nor can you see any guards or authorities here. We also did not encounter any authorities on our way back here."

"It is weird but what exactly do you want to say." Ciara did find it weird that even after such a loud explosion there was neither any panic in the citizens nor there were any high authorities of the town nearby, who were mostly intent-users.

"What I want to say is that maybe only we saw and heard that huge explosion caused by that neck-chain. So we will talk about that comet only if someone asks us about it." Michael said with an uncertain tone.

"Not even mom and dad?" asked Ciara.

"Nope, not even them." Michael replied before he pushed open the door and entered the house.

"Mom, dad we are home." shouted Michael as soon he entered the house, walking towards the hall of the house.

"Welcome back dear." they heard Erica's voice from the hall.

Both Nicholas and Erica were sitting on the sofa. Nicholas questioned as both Michael and Ciara came into his sight,

"What happened, what took you both so long?"

Before Ciara could speak anything Michael spoke,

"Nothing concerning, there was a herd of beasts there so we had to take a small detour." Michael lied without any change in his expression.

Nicholas gave a plain nod before he got up and headed towards his room.

"Okay, place the herbs on the table and both of you head towards bed, it's high time already."

Both Michael and Ciara did as instructed and headed towards their room.

As soon as Michael entered his room he dived into his bed. He was completely exhausted first he trained for hours and then he was sent to the forest to run an errand for his mother where the Neck-chain/ comet incident took place, he was completely drained.

Now all he needed was a good night's sleep.

Michael staring towards the ceiling muttered to himself before he fall asleep,

"What the hell was that neck-chain and who did that voice belong to?"
