Chapter 1 - The Bear and the Spear

Our story begins in a desert. The largest desert on the continent to be exact. There is nothing there. No rivers that could give live to the surrounding lands. No citys or towns where humans resign. No bastions where soldier could be stationed. There was just nothing except for the merciless sun that shins on everybody who dares to enter this lifeless desert which is known by many people as hell on earth. Only sand as far as the eye can reach and occasionally some poisonous scorpions and snakes. But there seems to be something different today. Noises. Screams. And metal hitting metal. Because there were people here, tens of thousands of soldiers to be exact, who are desperately fighting against each other in something that can only be called a carnage as people are dying left and right. It makes one wonder if there is only killing in those solders thoughts. There is no room for symphany for those poor poor souls. Well. To tell you the truth They are not allowed to show symphany. As showing it would mean their own dead. And that is something that they would want to prevent at any cost. There is truly no room for symphaty in a kill or be killed situation. You could say that it is their own fault for becoming a soldier. But that would not be true entirely. What does it mean to be a soldier? To protect ones nation and loved ones? To die in honor to be forever remembered as a hero? Yes. That is all that has been told to them inorder for them to obey the higher authoritarians. So it also means to become a meat shield and to die in a war that you did not declare for a reason that you will never know. If you had a say you would never fight in a desert without a doupt as it is one of the worst places to wage a war. One of the reasons is the sun as it can cause heat fever to the soldiers in their heavy armour. A heavy armour is also bad because you can sink easiely in the sand, just to die a useless death and never to be seen to the face of this world ever again. Sandstorms are also present, which hinders the sign to less than two metres in front of you. That way you can easiely become surrounded by your enemys and die in an encirclement. Normaly sandstorms do not happen that often. But it is an entirely diffent thing when you have wind element mages on your side. Normaly it would be a good thing which could be used tacticaly, but unfortunaly both sides have them. And in an fight for superiority they used up all of their mana and lost control which caused the storm to become uncontrolable and even stronger than the natural ones. This became a big disadvantage to both sides. Another reason why the desert is a bad battlefield is because it is monoton. It is everywhere the same. Which means that you can not really take adventage of the environment like a high ground so that your archers can shoot arrors from a wider distance or that the charge of your soldiers can be more succesfull, get lost more easily as there are no roads as they would be hidden beneath the sand in no time and freze to death in the night. There are no possible reasons as to why this battle should be happening there but it is still happening. The battle seems to be a pretty straight forword one. With no sign of the officers in the back they can no longer give commands to their soldiers. The two armies just clash at each other with brute strengt and scream at the top of their lungs which appears to be a war cry to give themself and their brothers in arm a higher moral and hope to survive all of this. The formation of the beginning was no longer recognizable as there were battles happening all over the place. If it weren´t for the two different symbols which each soldier have on their chestarmour and shield nobody would be able to differ between friend and foe. One symbol was that of a bear which had two horns and tree eyes. The third eye was on the forehead of the beast and it gave of the feeling as if it had the power to penetrait right into your soul. The other symbol looked more normal in contast. But it was anything that normal if you gave it a closer look. It was a single speer that was flying between two clouds with the sun in the background that was shining right at you. It was quite simple but it gave of the feeling as if it could cut you into two just by looking at it for too long, which is anything but normal. Battles were happening all over the place. But there was one battle which was quite special as there were just two people and one animal there and nothing else in the near surrounding. It was just like every other part of the desert and there were also no stop signs that would hinder anyone from entering. It was more of a feeling as if you would die the moment you would go near them. It was the feeling of death that was lingering in the air. It was a duel between the two army leaders. One of them was wieling a speer that everyone would recognize instantly as it was the speer which image everyone that was following him had at his chest. The other one was riding a bear that looked even more demon like than on those armours and banners. As if they were incapable of showing his true demonic being. Nobody dared to intervere in their dual. They would not be able to help their leader anyway as the dual was at such a high level that even the shockwaves of their weapons clashing against each other would be enough to kill those who were to close, without them ever knowing what hit them. You could see that the battle was already at his highiest point by the way those two leaders looked. There was a large cut on one of the bears legs which was caused by one the the speerwielders attack. The bear was still able to walk but you could see that it was in pain as it is losing more and more blood. Normaly such an injury would heal within seconds as it had an increadible high regeneration rate. But the attack had the will of the speer in it which was attached to the attack and is attacking the bear even now as we speak. The Speerwielder looked quite better in comparison but he was exhausted as well which you could see by the way he was breathing. In addition to that you could also see something on one of his arms that looked as if petrification magic of a high level was cast on it. But the man was still hanging on as it would not hinder him at the slighiest. Show weakness and you will die. It is that easy.
