"Hello detective, how's the case going so far?"
Jake had detached from Cindy, or – more appropriately – was trying to. Still, he had an invested interest on the search for her justice. He needed to fulfil promises he had made to himself, but mostly to her. Though he told himself he didn't care for her anymore.
"We might have caught a lucky break. We have a suspect whom we are hoping Cindy or Jade can identify. They are running late though yet we only have the guy for a little while longer." Detective Maynard had unleashed this earful hoping that Jake would help her out.
She had maintained the assumption that they were still together, even though her last call to him had suggested otherwise. Either way, her fingers remained crossed as she opted to take the vague implication of his statement as her distinguished truth. Otherwise, why would he be calling?
