Jake was livid. His mind was firmly fixed on the damsel he had left behind. He was not ready yet to face the city with its breathtaking pace. Life in the small town had been bearable, his health had been a beneficiary of the fresh air and atmosphere where noise polluted in more humble manner. Now he was in the hustle and bustle once again, under false pretenses.
"Jake, please!" she shouted as she trailed behind him.
His step was brisk and determined. He was determined to get out of there.
"Jake, please just listen."
"I think I've listened to you enough. It is time I plug my ears," he shot back.
She hastened so she could catch up to him. Maybe if she could gaze into his eyes, he would withhold his chastening and help her deal with the predicament that was before her.
