Chapter 13 - Chapter Thirteen: My forever dove

She is almost dozing off when she hears the distinctive sound of her man's car. With a wide smile in her heart, she carefully leverages herself up off of the arms of the couch. It has been a long day, one in which saying she missed him would be an understatement. She makes her way to the door with careful yet sure steps, she wouldn't want to upset the dormant princess very close to a dislodgment notice. The car door slams, the moment of truth draws near. Her heart dances inside of her, vigorously but from a good place. Let it dance, he owns it anyway. She is at the door, as she turns the knob she feels a similar motion already influencing the metal. He was opening it too. Great minds think alike, so they say. Well great love acts alike. He was her great love and satisfactorily for her the feeling was mutual.

Pleasantly surprised seeing his queen's one-man parade to welcome him back into his kingdom, he swoops in and with a passionate gentleness brushes his lips against her pimply cheeks. The pimples had come as baggage from the imminent little one. The gift inside of her however covered their taint so much that when he looked he saw silky skin. He was in genuine love with this smart, beautiful, at times tempestuous woman. No pimple or harsh word would ever paint her even in the lightest shade of black. She was his forever white.

"Hey baby, how was today?" he inquired as they moved to the couch area with his hand over her shoulder. Sinking into the embrace and allowing his sensuous cologne to seductively woo her, she replied "I was missing you like crazy". They settled into the couch and snuggled into each other. He ran his hands through her long strands of her, just the way she liked it. She learnt on his chest and counted the beats inside to see if they were all there. They were, his ribs too. "What did you make for your husband today?" he asked. "I made your favorite" she replied. "Oh, you did? It's been a while" he responded. She nodded in acknowledgment. "Who's your daddy?" he jested. She smiled. This was a trademark statement she knew very much about. One of the pillars of their relationship. They tried as much as possible to stay young even though the days were fleeting towards God knows where. "Let me go…help me up. I have a feast of a king to serve" she said as she grimaced from slight discomfort from her upward thrust. "Wait a minute", he said as he pulled her back down and lightly pressed his ears against her bulging stomach with his ear. "Any kicks for daddy princess?" She gently stroked his head as she smiled. "She is asleep daddy. Your timing is always off". She delicately pushed him away and got up, her arm propelling her up from his knee, she headed in the direction of the kitchen. Watching her as she went, he couldn't resist and threw another 'Who's your daddy' remark. She turned, gazed straight into his playful yet naughty eyes. She lingered, then replied "Mr. Greenfield is Elizabeth's daddy. You Jake, are Elizabeth's king".

"Why am I even listening to you?" Cindy queried. For the last fifteen minutes or so she had been attentive to Elizabeth and Jake's story. She had narrated how they met and was generous with the details of his romantic proposal. Cindy was already fed up yet Elizabeth was just starting. "I just need you to know why I am the way that I am" Elizabeth responded. "I might seem intact and strong…and powerful but really all I am is a fragile little girl trying to hide from the pain inside. I miss her too, yet he acted as if he was the only victim". That caught Cindy's attention. What was Elizabeth talking about? "Miss who?" Just then the door opened and their bone of contention appeared. "Why won't you just leave me alone Elizabeth? Leave us alone in peace". Elizabeth looked at Jake for a while, then at Cindy. Then she got up, her hand dove into her handbag and gave the impression she was looking for something. She pulled out a piece of jewelry, resembling a bird. Cindy noticed a tear on her face as it developed and fell down her cheek, unlucky to not run the full race as she wiped it as it neared her chin. She half-smiled at Cindy and set off, dumping the piece of jewelry on Jake's lap. "You said I was your dove forever. Your words, not mine". As she walked away, Jake's face became the hub of a flurry of emotion. He was somewhat conflicted, leaving Cindy somewhat surprised. The story to which she had heard the introduction, now she wanted to hear it all.

There is nothing to pleasantly end a calm and peaceful sleep that beats a sweet-voiced shout and leap from a five year old, thirty-pound bundle of joy. Jake's dream had to suspend to the following night. He woke up in the arms of little Leila, his darling princess. "Good morning my sweet baby" he greeted as he kissed her cheeks. Elizabeth leaned on the frame of the door, arms folded, observing her family. Her perfect world. "You sold me out didn't you?" he remarked friskily at Elizabeth. She just smiled. "I will get you. You wait and see" he added further. "Breakfast in ten, drag your daddy to the kitchen if you have to Leila" she said as she walked away. They took every meal with grace and smiles usually more abundant than the food. As Jake cast his eyes from his daughter to his wife, he noticed a pendant around her neck. He smiled as he looked at it, then at her. For a moment she turned shy, casting her glance onto the table floor. "Who's your daddy" he said to Elizabeth. "You are my daddy" little Leila interjected sending the parents into a light giggle. Jake's eyes turned from their daughter onto his wife again. With a broad smile uttered "You are my forever dove".
