Chapter 1 - I'm Sorry...

"I... can't do it anymore..."

I could feel the sun pierce my eyes as I moved my gaze toward it. Its warmth enveloped me, holding me tightly, telling me everything would be fine. I can't remember the last time I felt this warm.

A gust blew past me, thrashing against my body, negating all the warmth I had so longed for. It reminded me of this world's harsh reality. No matter how much you reach out to the warmth, to the joy, to the perfection you so desire...

It'll never come. That's why I stand here. The railing sat behind me with the 70-foot drop calling my name. I could see all the cars below me, going back and forth — Their horns blaring and their motors whizzing. The people down there look so small. Looks like no one has noticed me yet. I mean, why would they? I don't matter any more than they do, they don't need to worry about silly little me.

Ah, the sunset looks beautiful today. A nice backdrop for my dramatic farewell. The shades of yellow, orange and pink blend so nicely with one another. Maybe, I'm just getting sentimental.

Crap, I can hear footsteps. Someone's running up the stairs, probably for me.

One by one, I'll let my fingers go.

"Ten, nine, eight, seven..."

I've said all my goodbyes... Hopefully, I haven't forgotten anything.

"Six, five, four..."

I'm leaving all my regrets, my worries and my mistakes. I'm leaving them all here.

"Three..."This was the only way.

"Two..."

...This was the only way..."One..." Right..? My last finger slipped off and the weight of my body pulled me forward. I think I heard a door fly open.

"$%@^/!"

I could hear the vague noise of someone shouting something. It sounded like my name, but the noises from below drowned it out. I closed my eyes, preparing myself for what was to come. It felt as if my eyes were watering. Tears streamed down my face. But why? I chose to do this. I chose to let myself go. Am I regretting it?

I chose this, I should face the consequences. That's how it should be.

Once again, I was surrounded by the frigidness of the air, only this time, I was diving into it. The ambiance of the cars slowly turned into the muddled screams and shrieks of what I suspected to be spectators.

It all became a blur.

I kept my eyes shut. I wanted the last thing I see to be the sunset. The noises were all too messy for me to discern. Various screams, cars whirring across the road and the wind whooshing past my ears. It felt like an orchestra of chaos.

The stage had been set. An ensemble of madness paired with the savoury combination of colours in the sky. Almost like a metaphor for my life. Beautiful yet cluttered. The facade of perfection lay above while a mess of insanity lay underneath it all.

"I'm sorry Mom, I'm sorry Dad. I'm sorry everyone."

"I just couldn't meet your expectations... my expectations." I know I should've talked to someone... but I didn't... I was stubborn... I thought I could face it all on my own but turns out... I couldn't."

"For those who truly cared about me, I know that this'll hurt you more than it hurts me, but I hope you all live joyful lives regardless."

"Goodbye, Mom..." "Goodbye, Dad..." "Goodbye, everyone..."

"And to this world... it looks like I've given back what I owe you."

And with a loud thud, I hit the ground. I expected it to be instant and painless, but damn that hurt like hell. For a moment, I could feel blood leaking from my head and my bones ached from where they were broken. I lost consciousness shortly after and all I saw was white. It was like a bright light, similar to something I had experienced shortly before. It was warm and enveloping, just like the sun.

"Is this heaven? Glad to know I made it up here at least..."

I could finally rest. Live the rest of my life without worry. Well, I wasn't exactly living, so 'experience the rest of my existence' I guess?

I couldn't move. Something felt tight like I was being squeezed.

I began to hear noises, people's voices. They spoke in words I didn't understand. I assume they were others who had died and come to heaven as well. I think I finally started to move. It was more like I was being pushed, but I was finally getting somewhere.

The white light began to brighten and become fiercer. As did the feeling of being pushed. I closed my eyes again, hoping that everything would turn out fine. In an instant, the pushing stopped and warmth disappeared. Instead, my ears were deafened by loud voices and my skin was hit with an intense chill.

I pried my eyes open to assess the situation and was met with a blinding radiance. It wasn't like the light from before. This one was harsh and it felt like it was screaming at me.

As my senses adjusted to my new surroundings, I identified two distinct figures that were positioned around me. A man who stared into my eyes with a look of joy, though it seemed he was ready to spill his guts at the same time. The other was a woman who had tears in her eyes while panting heavily and looking at me with a gaze I could only describe as sincere.

At that moment, I realized one simple thing...

I was reborn.
