Nolan embraced the silence that struck after she spoke. He didn't want to say he had no words for her. But he knew. She wasn't lying. Naomi didn't kill the little boy even though it was her in the cameras, pulling him from his bed and throwing him past the glass and out the window. She was innocent.
He said, "I believe you, but you have to tell me what happened after I left your ward. Don't miss out any details."
Naomi frowned after a second. She moved to speak, but no words came out. Her hands gripped the side of her head and her eyes were nearly crossing as she strained to remember. He could hear the throbbing in her head.
Nolan placed his hands over hers and disconnected the vice grip she had on her scalp. "Noami," he said.
She looked at him, and he could see the uncontrolled panic in her eyes. She had blanked out and could remember nothing.
