Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Dream

Dashing through the woods, Elwin cursed as his foot tugged on a protruding root, another second for them to catch up he thought gloomily. Elwin quickly freed himself from the tree root and began dashing forward again, faster this time, like his life depended on it, probably because it did. Elwin could hear the rustling of leaves, the creaking of branches, constantly reminding Elwin of the dangerous pursuers behind him. Elwin had never regretted a moment more than the moment he had decided to accept this mission, he shook his head freeing himself of unnecessary thoughts as he focused on the current task.

Elwin brainstormed ways he could shake off his pursuers as he ran, unfortunately anything he could think of was useless against them. However from the increasing sunlight and decreasing foliage, Elwin could tell he would be out the woods soon. Unfortunately, that just increased his problems, they would be able to shoot him down as soon as they stepped into the plains. Elwin had to shake them off NOW, or he would have the rest of his life to find out what happens to deserters. Elwin only had one chance of surviving but he didn't like it very much. It was risky that was for sure, but Elwin had done risky, no what terrified Elwin was leaving his wellbeing in the hands of luck and not himself. Elwin had studied a map of the Kalagou forest, and he knew that the Kroma ravine was coming up, he just didn't know where.

But Elwin had to take the chance, his pursuers were at most 400 metres away from him, and with their speed, they would catch up in about 44 seconds. Just enough time for his plan to work if everything went right. Elwin had never believed in God, he prayed that one would be on his side as he jumped, right into the Kroma ravine.

Elwin gasped, as he sprung straight up from his bed, wondering what in the world that dream had been, he had saw himself running around through a forest, running from strange things in full black, and jumping into a ravine. Elwin thought of the whole scenario as anything but normal, first of all, he lived in London, Britain and had never seen a single tree since he moved here from Singapore.

(A/N: I the author am Singaporean, but Britain was a better background for the mc because my story is somewhat inspired from the Alex rider series so don't blame me if there are some inconsistencies between story Britain and real life Britain. Also my first language is English, but I speak Chinese and I am part Chinese so I might unintentionally include some Chinese phrases or the like, but I did NOT grow up in China, so this will NOT be a cultivation novel, and there will be NO young master's and face-slapping and if I ever see or hear the word "harem" again I will go back in time and torture its creator. Also the mc's name was meant to be my name: Ekwin, but when I tried to write it in, it got autocorrected to Elwin and I decided to roll with it)

The people in black were strange too, if you could call them human, they seemed humanoid but there was something off about them, their actions and movements were strange and robotic. And finally the closing darkness and feeling of weightlessness as he had fallen into that ravine was an absolutely horrifying to say the least.

Elwin wanted to forget the dream, but it felt so weirdly real, like he had been there or was going to be there, Elwin shook his head to get that terrifying possibility out of his head, he didn't want to believe it, after all it was just a dream, and all dream's feel real right?

Elwin got out of bed, deciding to ignore the previous dream and start to prepare for school, he brushed his teeth, changed into his school clothes, ate breakfast, put on his shoes and headed out the door.

(A/N: The first chapter is only meant to build some suspense and act more like a prologue than an actual chapter so it is only about 536 words, not including the A/N's. Upcoming chapters will be around 1000 words long, but update schedule will be inconsistent due to school. Also I don't write in second person much so don't be surprised if I accidently use "I" somewhere.)
