Kai Piers didn't look at the photo anymore, nor at Lilian Meurer. He stated flatly, "Alright, I got it."
"Well, since you've seen it, I'll take it back, so there's no...misunderstanding. I saw Aurora Dupont chatting quite happily with this man. They probably are old friends."
"Yes," surprisingly, Kai Piers responded, "They indeed are old friends. Their ties run deep."
"I was being a busybody then, I...am sorry."
Kai Piers lifted his hand, rubbing his brow, "Is there anything else?"
Lilian Meurer nodded: "Yes."
"Speak."
"You're married now, and...it pains me." She lowered her head, "Kai Piers, I loved you so much and I still do."
Isaac Dupont, who was playing with his iPad with his head down, suddenly sneaked a glance in their direction and then looked away, looking particularly mischievous.
In front of the floor-to-ceiling window, in the abundant light, Kai Piers stood half in the bright light and half in the shadows. His white shirt gave him a very upright appearance.
