There was a sudden stiffness in Lissy Lock's smile.
She had known that no one would tell her. This was expected.
Father Fame was no longer looking at her. He turned away, consoling Auntie.
Lissy Lock also looked up at John Fame, taking in his distinct profile as she softly asked: "John Fame, if Uncle can't answer me, then... what about you? Can you answer me?"
Nothing seemed unusual with John Fame's expression, but he still tactfully steered away from the topic: "Why ask this all of a sudden?"
"Because now is the perfect opportunity," Lissy replied. "It's not like I'm asking out of the blue. I've thought about this for a long time. It's only now that I'm voicing out the question."
