Aurora Dupont felt both worried and amused. While driving, she occasionally glanced at him: "Well, now you know what pain feels like, weren't you just fine a minute ago?"
"The pain intensifies later, it's a hundred times worse than before!"
"Hold on, we're almost at the hospital."
Matteo Quirke contemplated for a moment then said: "The doctor won't think, I was assaulted by you, right?"
Aurora shot him a look: "Aren't you in pain? And still you have the mind to joke?"
Matteo Quirke, clutching his cheekbone, looked at her sideways, a glint in his eyes: "Aurora, even if you beat me up, I'm not afraid of losing face."
"What nonsense are you talking about, Matteo Quirke, did you actually lose your mind?"
"This injury is nothing, it's worth it if it gets your sympathy." Matteo Quirke said, then paused, "Kai Piers... he's not any better than me."
