Homewrecker?
Claire felt that her dignity would never allow her to be a homewrecker.
Claire laughed and waved the marriage certificate in her hand at Susan. She then immediately retorted without any sense of weakness. "Just to make it clear to you, I've never been a homewrecker. Even if I was, I'm now his actual wife."
Just as Claire said that, she took a glance at the divorce certificate in Susan's hands. It was already crumpled out of shape. Claire continued, "On the other hand, what exactly are you other than his ex-wife?"
Susan did not expect a young girl like her to have such a sharp tongue. She was taken aback.
A strong sense of resentment rose from her heart and Susan raised her hand in an attempt to slap Claire.
Claire felt that she was done for, and she thought that she would have to embarrass herself in front of Asher once more. Once Susan slapped her, she would have to return it. And if she did, they would most likely end up in a fight.
Claire would never blindly remain at the receiving end.
Just as the slap was about to land on Claire's face, a familiar yet foreign presence inched closer to her. Asher gripped Susan's hand and said, "You can't hit her."
"Asher Kens!"
"Before you completely ruin my mood, get lost."
Asher had a strong, overwhelming sense of authority. Just a simple "get lost" was enough to make Susan shudder in fear. Even Claire felt that way.
However, Asher seemed to be helping her.
Just exactly… What kind of person could he be?
Susan violently withdrew her hand and stared right at Claire. With her eyes like venom, she snarled, "You wait for it!"
"If something happens to her, you'll be the first to go," Asher said, "Susan Mills, don't you dare provoke my wife in front of me."
Susan had more words to spout and curse at Claire, yet she had no choice but to hold it all in. All she could do was glare.
Of course, Claire glared back at her.
With Asher backing her up, why would she still be afraid of Susan?
Well enough, after Asther's warning, Susan did not dare to do anything to Claire anymore.
When Susan walked away, she looked as though she wanted to skin Claire alive.
Claire stood behind Asher and looked at her innocently.
After all… She just found out that she was here to marry Asher.
To be married to someone like him… Claire raised her head and looked at Asher's side profile. She could not exactly point out what she was feeling.
Could this be the start of a happy marriage or an unfortunate beginning?
Claire just could not understand why Asher would marry her.
Of course, she did not expect Asher to explain himself to her.
Mr. Jones was right–she had no right to ask why, especially when it was related to Mr. Kens. He would always be in control.
Claire was adopted by him, so her life was all planned out by him, and she could even say that her life belonged to him. When they were in the bureau, no matter how much Claire rejected, she would still have to marry him in the end.
Claire would never go against Asher. No one in Melford would be able to refuse him. Toward him, people would always choose to obey.
He was strong, decisive, and he would always move faster than his words did.
When Susan disappeared in the corner, Asher put one hand into his pocket and lowered his head as he stared at Claire. "Since we're married, from now onward, you're Mrs. Kens. But I hope that after we leave this place, you can pretend as though nothing happened."
He said calmly, and it sounded as though everything was going according to his plans.
When Claire looked at his face, a sense of anger quietly rose from deep within her heart.
