Kai Piers, seemingly unaffected, asked pleasantly, "Where's Mila?"
Aurora replied, "She's asleep."
"I knew you were putting her to sleep, so I purposely waited half an hour before knocking."
With that, Kai Piers stepped in.
Aurora hastily retreated a step. "What are you doing?"
"Nothing."
"Get out," Aurora said, "This is my room."
"I'm aware this is your room. This is not my first time in here."
Aurora looked at him, her brow furrowed.
"Don't furrow your brow," Kai Piers said, "I don't want you to be unhappy."
"Then leave, and I'll stop frowning."
Aurora..." he sighed, "You wouldn't know... the moment I saw you, how I felt... I thought I was dreaming. I could hardly believe you would suddenly appear before me."
Aurora stayed silent.
"Why did you come back so quietly? If I hadn't run into you, when would you have appeared before me?"
Kai Piers spoke slowly, softly. There was no hint of an accusation in his voice.
Aurora looked at him, her heart aching too.
