Lilian Meurer knew in her heart that she could never compete with Aurora Dupont, but she had to try.
She couldn't lose, couldn't run away. She loved Kai Piers just as much as Aurora did, if not more.
Upon hearing Aurora's questioning, Kai's pupils constricted slightly.
He turned around, glanced at Lilian and said, "A friend."
Lilian had previously anticipated this response, however, hearing it directly was still painful and saddening.
In Kai's heart, she was just a friend.
Well, in front of Aurora, she was merely a stand-in.
However, Aurora laughed: "Kai Piers, stop lying to me. A female companion is a female companion. A friend? What kind of friend? When have you ever brought a friend to the Dupont Family home, let alone stood shoulder to shoulder with them?"
Without any hesitation, she exposed Kai's lie, also hurting herself in the process.
These past few years, it turned out that someone else had been by Kai's side all along.
