The fact that Father Fame and Mother Fame had divorced, was mostly due to Liam's mother's interference in their marriage. Liam being John's elder brother indicated that Father Fame's affair had been going on for a long time. After the divorce, Mother Fame chose to live abroad, John lived with Grandfather Jim Fame while Father Fame lived with Liam and his mother. This upheaval naturally cast a long shadow over John's life.
