John Fame took a sip of water and paused upon hearing Kai Piers's words as if he was about to spit the water out. He couldn't help but glance at him.
Kai lightly shrugged, "I'm just stating the facts. You've been very strategic, laying everything out with care. First, you acted busy with work. Then, logically you followed it up with getting drunk at social functions, and then there's Caspian Darcy..."
"If you don't speak, no one would mistake you for a mute," John interrupted him and snuffed out the cigarette he was smoking.
"It's hard to believe you've done all this merely to distance Lissy Lock from yourself. Let me ask you again — you don't regret it?"
"I regret it," replied John Fame earnestly, "but there's no alternative."
"What if Skye Turner does turn out to be pregnant and asserts that it's your child? How would Lissy respond to that?"
"That's Oliver Winslow's issue, not mine."
