John Fame leaned back into the sofa, propping his forehead with one hand. "So, on one hand, you tell Matteo Quirke that Aurora Dupont is in Hokkaido, urging him to go and meet her. On the other hand, you secretly sneak off to Hokkaido yourself to watch the two of them meet from afar. Kai Piers, do you find this amusing?"
The other end of the line fell silent for a moment as Kai Piers seemed to have moved to a quieter location.
"Well, how did you find out," said Kai Piers with a hint of laughter in his voice. "I was so focused on avoiding Aurora that I didn't think about avoiding you. Well, now you can mock me all you want."
"I'm afraid…I'm not in a position to mock you."
Kai Piers, who initially sounded somewhat disheartened, became curious upon hearing John's response, asking, "What happened? What did Lissy Lock do to you?"
John ended the call abruptly and set his phone aside.
