Jim Fame's cane repeatedly struck John Fame, who silently and stoically took each hit, not dodging or resisting.
Lissy Lock was so terrified that she felt her heart might leap out of her throat.
After taking a hit from the cane, John Fame's attitude hardened immediately: "Yes, Grandpa, you're right."
Jim Fame once again raised the cane to strike.
By this time, Lissy Lock was stupefied. But when Jim Fame again raised his cane, she threw herself towards him, tightly clutching his hand: "Grandpa...no more hitting."
A change came over John Fame's face.
When Jim Fame's cane had struck him so hard earlier, he didn't even knit his brows.
Now that Lissy Lock intervened, he seemed somewhat surprised.
Jim Fame gazed at her with confusion and surprise: "Lissy Lock, I'm doing this for you! He wronged you so much, and you still stand up for him?"
"Grandpa...if..." Lissy Lock moistened her dry lips, "If you really want to help me, let John Fame and me handle this issue privately."
