Matteo Quirke chuckled, "Do you really not want to see me at all?"
"No," she replied, "it's a misunderstanding."
Matteo withdrew his hand. Aurora Dupont thought he was about to leave, but instead, he turned and casually leaned against the door frame, "You're not exactly fond of having me appear in your home, in this manner, are you, Aurora?"
Her brows furrowed slightly, "I thought I made myself clear in the café today, Mr. Quirke."
"Actually," said Matteo, "I followed you from the restaurant to your bedroom precisely to talk about what you said to me in the café today."
Aurora peered at him, puzzled, "What's there to discuss?"
"So, you just don't want to have any deeper relationship with me." Matteo laughed lightly, "Is that right?"
"We can be friends. But we'll never be boyfriend and girlfriend." Aurora looked at him squarely, "I like my life the way it is. I don't need a relationship."
The second floor was quiet except for the low voices of Matteo Quirke and Aurora Dupont.
