"Son! Watch your anger!" Korgrav Titanborn, my father, growled, waking me slightly from my state of rage, but I was consumed by it once more.
Yes, It's been almost a year now since my entire family and home were massacred mercilessly. Sehaela and I have been training daily to get stronger as an ongoing investigation continued but so far fruitless. The clues we thought we had were dead ends. All we knew for certain was that the group responsible were specifically fire warmages.
They also had to have been lead by a very very powerful person. To be able to conjure such a massive familiar, a creature that is conjured by a warmage or Maji that is a direct reflection of who they are and how powerful they are... They had to be extremely powerful. Beyond this, there was nothing else.
"Zionai!" he exclaimed one more time. This time I shook my head and became fully aware of my situation.
That demon had showed itself slightly by taking over my arm. It had made me grab the training dummy by its "throat" and it had completely incinerated. The fiery arm dispersed instantly and I took a solemn step back.
One year... one year and I have yet to even come close to controlling my magic or this monster inside of me... It seems like the stronger I become, it likewise grows in power. My father was adamant about getting me to the point of control. He refused to accept what I've nearly come to; I don't think it will ever be possible.
"Son... I know you are hurting inside. I know you are angry. I know that you want revenge. Use this emotion, don't let it consume you." My father stated after putting a hand on my shoulder.
I sighed, but I had a resolve that nothing was going to hinder. I will never admit defeat again.
"You know... you've never told me why your family is called Titanborn." I stated looking for an opportunity for a break.
I always knew when I needed to take a break. Too much frustration would cause the full demon to come out. So far, I've not gone full monster since the dirt knight, so the only one who's seen it is Sehaela. She's elected not to speak on the matter; In fact, she has refused.
"Curious are we? Well it's a bit of a silly legend that is too outlandish." My father stated with a hardy laugh.
"Still, appease me."
He sighed softly, "Very well."
He took a seat on a hay square and gestured for me to do the same, across from him. I, of course, obliged.
"It supposedly traces all the way back to the dawn of magic. At that time, there were Titans. Each one was a legendary beastly giant being that was the embodiment of a certain element. There was only ever one per element. They ruled the world as they also made the world work. They were monstrous. It wasn't until a single man decided to trick them all that they would disappear. That man's identity remains a secret, but what he did was ingenious."
"According to the story, he had found a way to seal the Titans away by causing them to willingly give their powers up. He sent several women out after convincing the Titans that if they made children with humans that they would create countless smaller Titans and could create a legacy that would last forever."
"And they believed this?" I interrupted.
"They were powerful and power hungry, but definitely not smart."
"Right." I stated in understanding.
"Still, they fell for it hard. Each titan independently tried to have their own child with a human woman of their own choice. What they didn't realize is that they were incidentally giving their entire selves over to another species."
"This spread their powers into the whole world, splitting themselves infinitesimally, but most importantly it created the first Maji ever. From those first Maji's descendants spread the abilities of wielding magic. Our family claims to be descendants of one of those Maji born of a Titan. That's where the name Titanborn comes from."
"Woah... so if that's true, I am part Titan?" I stated completely bewildered and excited about the whole idea.
"Hey, now, listen... That's just a legend..." He replied laughing hard
"You can't be part Titan if you don't start giving this control thing much more effort."
"Hmmph... would you like to see Titan material?" I asked him with a sheepish grin.
"Ummm what are you getting at?" Korgrav asked with an eyebrow raised
"No. No. No no. No you don't! Do not Zionai!" Sehaela interrupted, seemingly appearing from out of nowhere.
"Look who's finally talking..." I stated with a grin.
"Don't you dare allow yourself to lose all control again! I won't stand for it!" Sehaela demanded.
"It can't be that bad." Korgrav said with intrigue.
"Oh yes it is! It's not good at all! He nearly accidentally killed me!"
"Ok ok fine... Nevermind dad, Sehaela is right. It is too dangerous." I sighed
"That's very responsible of you. That is taking control of your confi..."
"Lord! Lord!!!" a crazed captain came running in to the practice arena obviously out of breath.
"What!? What is it Captain Sanlin!?" My father exclaimed as he launched onto his feet.
"Giant Lizard... flying... made of purple lightning... headed east... towards Daigonsen..." He managed to breathe out through his panting. He'd apparently been running quite a ways to deliver this message.
"No! That sounds like the same thing that attacked us!" Sehaela proclaimed as she was one of the only two living people to have witnessed seeing it.
"Bruhom... agrees..."
"Rally the entire brigade they will need our assistance! We may not can defeat this thing, but we can maybe save more lives by evacuation!" Korgrav growled with intensity.
"I'm coming too!" I exclaimed.
"No! You can't control yourself. You're a danger to yourself and everyone else. I'm sorry son." Korgrav stated before Lieutenant Bruhom came in with what seemed to be three other Lieutenants.
"But... Dad... this might be my chance..."
"Son, if you die or someone else does because I made the wrong call. I can't live with that."
"Fine..." I grumbled.
"Very well, Bruhom, Sanlin. Let's go!" Korgrav commanded as they rushed out of the arena and towards the stables.
Sehaela then walked up behind me, "He's just trying to protect you and everyone else."
"Yeah, well, he's about to see that I'm worthy of being a Titan." I growled, my eyes flaming
"You are an idiot..." Sehaela stated
