Things seemed to go pretty well the next few weeks. I am starting to get a better handle on my powers, and Aidan is a great help. I also stopped being such a worry wart about Julie, and just let things be. Things are going so well I decided I wanted to see more of Hawaii so I booked a weekend trip over to Maui, and that also gives Aidan and Julie some much needed time alone. They really haven't had any since I got here, and they really need some. They get to have a nice romantic weekend, and I get to check out more of Hawaii!
Maui is amazing, it is just another draw to keep me in Hawaii, the views, the beach, it is all awesome. I do need to find someone to teach me to surf though, I have always wanted to and there is no better time than now. Aidan said the hotels tend to rip you off on surf lessons though, so who exactly am I suppose to get to teach me? I will figure it out, I'll just go check out that nice surf shop on the beach by my hotel and see what I can figure out.
Ok, the girl behind the counter of this shop is a pain in the butt. She keeps looking down her nose at me every time I ask her a damn question. I am so sorry I have never surfed before and don't know what all I need or where to go to learn. Really, how they keep customers around here with people like her working! Guess I will just start trying on wet suits, cause I am pretty sure all the movies show people wearing those!
Uh, this sucks, maybe I don't want to do this after all!
"Um excuse me, not to be rude, but you look like you could use a little help."
"Huh, what?" Oh my gosh, this guys has the most gorgeous eyes I have ever seen! What did he ask me? Oh right, do I need help. Well you really do Kenna, and you are here to have fun this weekend. "Oh sorry, I have no idea what I am doing. I am from the states and just really wanted to learn to surf, and so far no one has been helpful at all." I look meaningfully over to the girl behind the cash registered, but she doesn't really seem to care that I am even there. She does however have an eye on this new guy!
"Well if you are up for it I would be more than happy to help. I can even give you some lessons if you would like."
"Really, that would be great. Wait you aren't like some crazy kidnapper or something are you?" Really Kenna, did you really just say that to him?
He laughs, "well if I was I am pretty sure I wouldn't tell you, but to make you feel better, my name is Jake. I actually live over in Hilo, just came over for the weekend."
"Really, my brother lives over there, and I am here for a visit, but wanted to see more of the islands."
"Well, see there, we were suppose to meet in Maui."
His smile is amazing, what the heck, you only live once. "Ok, I could use some help and lessons would be great!"
Jake helped me get all the gear I needed, and the shop girl glared at me the entire time, and then we headed to the beach, he even has an extra board he lent to me.
It is really fun just getting away from everything going on in my life and just having fun. Jake didn't even try anything with me, which I honestly expected after the way we met. He gave me lessons all day yesterday, then took me to a great night club. I am making a new friend in Hawaii, and it is one that my brother and Julie didn't find for me. Of course he also gave me lessons today, and we found out we're on the same flight back to Hilo. But once we landed that is where we parted ways. We did exchange digits though, so hopefully that isn't the last time I will ever see him.
But where the heck is Aidan? He told me he would pick me up at the airport today, and he knew when my flight was coming in. Maybe I should have taken Jake up on the ride home. I guess I am taking a cab to Aidan's place.
Man he isn't home either, in fact it looks like he hasn't been home all weekend, and he isn't answering his cell phone either. Something isn't right, I have a very very bad feeling about this. Ok Kenna try Julie's phone. Nope nothing there either, where are they? Calm down girl, maybe their romantic weekend is going a little longer than planned, don't start freaking out just yet. Just turn in for the night, Aidan will be here in the morning!
What was that? Something just woke me, there it is again it's something in the kitchen. Maybe Aidan is just now getting home, what time is it? It is 2 in the morning, really, doesn't Aidan have school today?
"Aidan, Aidan is that you?" Someone just came up behind me and grabbed me, and covered my mouth! Oh shit I am in trouble.
"Calm down Kenna, it's Jake; if I take my hand off your mouth do you promise not to scream?" I shook my head yes, not because I wouldn't scream, but at this moment I am pretty sure that I can't.
"Ok, just stay calm."
"Stay calm, are you kidding me, Jake I never gave you this address, how did you, what are you, oh my God you really are some crazy kidnapper aren't you?"
"Ok first off, you should sit down; we have a lot to go over and very little time to do it."
So I sat, I really didn't know what else I could do at this point he is a heck of a lot stronger than me after all.
"Kenna, really you need to calm down you are gonna make that damn volcano erupt and probably cause a hurricane if you don't calm down!"
What did he just say to me? "Wha, what? I don't know what you are talking about? Oh my God you are one of them!"
"Let's start this from the beginning and go from there; it will be a lot easier that way."
"You want me to sit here calmly and just listen to you?"
"Kenna I knew your Grandmother, well actually, my grandfather knew your Grandmother. They met just after you moved to Rainier. But I need you to listen to me, Aidan is in trouble."
"You are from Rainier? Hold on did you say Aidan is in trouble?"
"Really Kenna this will go a lot faster if you let me tell you everything then you ask question."
"Ok fine, continue." What choice do I really have anyway, and if Aidan is really in trouble I need to know what is going on.
"Granny, are you ok with me calling her that?" It would make it easier, so I shook my head yes. "Well, Granny met my grandpa and they became really close friends. She actually confided in him everything about your family, and I mean everything. It took some convincing but she did convince him, and the proof was in you. As I was told, when you were younger you had no control over your abilities at all, and Granny had to keep you away from most people. But as you grew we don't know why but it stopped, almost like you bottled everything about your abilities up and hid it away inside you somewhere. I am a few years older than you, three to be exact, and when I was 6 my grandpa died in a car accident, but he and Granny had confided in my father. It was decided then, that my family would try to protect you."
Seriously, this guy is suppose to be some kind of protector?
"Kenna, I am serious, and it was really easy back home, but when you started jumping around the globe it got a little more difficult. I have been watching you since I turned 18. My father handed the job over to me per say, and I didn't mind, it made my life more exciting, anyway. Your protection became my job, I knew when Granny died that you were going to find out everything, and I am really sorry that it had to happen that way, but it was Granny's choice and no one could sway her. She also had us put some emergency things together for you. In case someday you had to disappear. So, I have the documents it would take to get you out of here, a new identity, we have had it your entire life. "
"Ok, so I am supposed to believe that you are here on my Granny's behalf to protect me? If we both grew up in Rainier why don't I know you? For that matter why don't I know your Grandfather or your father?"
"All great questions and you actually have something that will help to convince you better than anything I say can."
"What do you mean I have something?"
"Did you bring the 'In Case of Emergency' folder with you?"
"Yes." How does he know about that?
"If you get it you will find a letter in it address to you."
I ran to my room and grabbed my folders, and sure as heck there in the emergency folder is another letter with my name on it.

Oh baby girl, if you are reading this then things are not going well at all. And knowing you, you are waiting for Jake to pinch you or something and wake you from a dream. Darling I wish that were true, Jake is here to protect you, and I know you are thinking that if you both grew up in such a small town why don't you know him. Because we didn't think you should.
He needed to be someone that no one could ever trace back to your past. We kept the two of you apart to help keep you safe. You met his grandfather when you were a baby, but you don't remember him. He was a great man, and he helped me more than you can understand. In a way I loved him, I never got over your grandfather, but I did love Jake's grandfather too.
If you are reading this then things have gotten bad, the Restorers have found probably found you. My worst nightmare has come to life. I know it is hard, but you have to trust Jake. He knows what to do. You can trust him with your life; I promise you he will give his own life to keep you safe. I am so sorry baby girl. I love you. And I am with you always.

"It's true, you know about everything?"
"I do, but Kenna we don't have much time. If you need more convincing look in the rest of the folder. It has all the information on me, and how to get in touch with me."
"Granny's letter is good enough for me, but why now? You had all weekend to tell me who you are?"
"While we were in Maui Aidan told Julie about himself. And if I am right, they have him now. We have to get out of here before they get you too."
He completely ignored my question about not telling me about himself in Maui, "they? You mean the Restorers? Oh no, absolutely not, I am not leaving my brother here. We are going to find him and we are going to get him back, come hell or high water, I did not just find him to lose him!"
"Kenna, you have been gone two days, they probably took him yesterday, and chances are he is already dead."
"NO HE IS NOT, I would know! Aidan is still alive, and I am going to save him."
"Kenna, you just want him to be."
"Jake, just because your family has been watching over me my entire life does not in any way give you authority to tell me what I can and cannot do. My brother is still alive and I am going to get him back if it is the last thing I do!" No need telling him I can talk to Aidan, but just to be sure I better check and make sure he really is still alive.
"Aidan, Aidan can you hear me?" Oh God the waiting is horrible, but I am not about to give up. Oh finally!
"Kenna, oh my God Kenna is that you? It sounds like you are whispering."
"Yes, Aidan it's me, it must be the distance or something. Are you ok?"
"Me? Kenna are you ok, Julie won't tell me anything about you. Said I shouldn't worry about you anymore. You were right Kenna, the Restorers are out there, and Julie is one of them. I am so sorry."
"Now is not the time for sorry, do you have any idea where you are?"
"No not really, Julie came by Saturday morning said there was this guy she really wanted me to meet that was wanting to do a paper on Volcanoes, I remember letting them in and not much after that. When I woke up I was locked in this room. They have been asking me all kinds of questions about my family. I think they are trying to figure out if you are like me and if we are the only two."
"You didn't tell Julie about the others, and she doesn't know about me?"
"No I was afraid it would kinda freak her out to know there were more of us out there. And it isn't my place to tell people about you, but I think they suspect. You aren't safe Kenna; you need to get out of here."
"Are you crazy, I am going to come find you.."
"NO Kenna you can't, there are at least five of them. I won't let you do this."
"Well, Aidan your first mistake is thinking you have a say in this. I will tell you the same thing I told Jake, I am coming to get you and if you want to help you can, but I am coming."
"Jake, who is Jake?"
"Long story, tell you later. I will figure something out, and I am coming to get you. Hold on Aidan."
"Kenna, you have to get away from my house. They will look for you there, and Julie said something to the guys about picking you up tomorrow for breakfast."
"I will Aidan, I am going to get you out of their Aidan. I have to go, but I will talk to you soon. I love you."
"I love you too Kenna, be careful."
"What are you doing?"
"What?"
"I have been talking to you for the last five minutes and you have just been zoning me out."
"Well if everything you said was to try and tell me why I shouldn't try to find my brother you were wasting your breath anyway."
"Kenna, you don't understand, these people will kill you."
"I understand completely Jake, and they will KILL AIDAN if I don't do something about it, so instead of trying to be my "father" maybe you could be a friend and try and help me do something to prevent that from happening!"
"You know things were a lot easier when I just had to stay back and watch you! I could just tie you up and throw you in my car!"
"You could try, but if you really know everything about me I really wouldn't suggest that."
"Well, no point in wishing for the past now anyway is there? And I don't really want to be burned alive or drowned, so we will try and get Aidan. I will help you, but we have to be off this island in 48 hours at the latest!"
"Ok, then we better start figuring out what our next move is to find Aidan."
"Yeah grab your stuff, let's go."
"Um where are we going?"
"We can't stay here at Aidan's place, it is one of the first places they will look for you. We are going to my place."
"Oh."
Jake's place is small and you could tell he hasn't been here long. He has an old couch and a mattress on the floor for furniture and that is it.
"Jake if I had decided to move here, then what, you can't just dropped your life back home and move here."
"I told you Kenna, my job is to protect you, and that is what I do. I did do other things back home, your life didn't used to be this exciting. But my family also has money, and we have everything set up to protect you."
"Great so my bodyguard is a rich playboy, awesome! Why then, are you doing this for me?"
"I was raised believing it was what I am supposed to do, plus it gives this rich playboy something to do."
"Ok, I am going to trust you, and honestly I need your help, I have never done anything like this before." Great, so much for meeting a hot guy in Hawaii! Damn family history, but thank you Granny, I do need some serious help right now.
"I already figured that. How are we going to even know where to start?"
"Can't we just go to the police? Isn't that what they are there for?"
"Nice idea, but it wouldn't work. We can't prove they have Aidan, and the minute the police come sniffing around they will move him somewhere we can't find him or eliminate him completely."
"You mean kill him."
"Yes, they have been doing this for a long time, trust me they are very good at it, no cops."
"Ok no cops."
"So do you have any idea how to find Aidan, Kenna?"
"I thought of that, as far as Julie knows I have no idea what is going on, and her and I are friends. So, she is probably going to go by the house in the morning, and if I go back there they will kidnap me right. So once they do that you just follow me."
"What, no way absolutely not. I am not going to let them kidnap you! Put yourself right into harm's way are you crazy. Even Aidan wouldn't agree to that."
"Well, Aidan doesn't have a choice now does he? And what are you going to do lock me up and throw away the key, we have been over that already."
"You know that sounds like a brilliant idea." Shit he is coming towards me, this is not what is supposed to be happening. Stop, oh stop, you cannot lock me up! He stopped that is weird. "Kenna what are you doing?"
"What do you mean what am I doing? I am trying to figure out how to get outta here and not be locked away, or burn down your house."
"No Kenna, I can't move forward, it is like there is a force field in front of me, what are you doing?"
"I kept telling you to stop in my head, hold on." There it is I can feel it; I have pretty much made the air so dense in front of Jake he can't get through it. "Your right, I am doing that, cool. So I can use them as a defense at least."
"Kenna, now you can stop doing it."
"Do you promise not to do anything to me to stop me from finding my brother?"
"I promise not to lock you up."
Not really what I wanted from him but it will work for now. Ok deep breath and just relax, wow just like that the air is back to normal. "If you have enough control we might have more of an advantage than you think, I am still not letting you be kidnapped though."
"Fine, but we have to think of something."
Well it took us a little longer than I liked, but we figured something out, I don't think it would work as well as my plan, but whatever, Jake is the protection expert after all. I promised I would not go back to Aidan's house, but I am going to meet Julie for breakfast somewhere public, of course this plan depends completely on Julie calling me when she doesn't find me at Aidan's house. There is still a risk of me being kidnapped, but it is the best solution Jake found, and he will be watching me the entire time. So now all we have to do is get through the night and wait for Julie to call hopefully.
