Chapter 9 - Broken Jug

The roadside shack looked relatively new. The signboard was gleaming, and the insides looked well furnished. A bright old lady greeted and guided them to a table. 'What are you going to eat?' Clyde asked Tigris and Fini. They both simultaneously replied 'Betyr Bun' and laughed. Clyde let Dela eat some birdfeed which was available at the shack.

Clyde went out to the back with the lady to fill up on water. Tigris began a conversation with Fini. 'What do you think is going to happen to us?' Tigris spoke and changed his tone to serious. 'Whatever happens, I'll protect you.' Just as those words left Fini's mouth, she caught glimpse of someone peeking in through a window, looking at Tigris. She expressed this concern to Tigris, who became alert.

Suddenly, a large stone came flying in from the window and hit the jug of water on Tigris and Fini's table. The strike was hard enough to shatter the jug. Both Tigris and Fini flinched, but Fini was drenched in fear. Tigris quickly went to her side, and Clyde came running from the back with the old lady. As Tigris consoled the petrified Fini, Clyde went outside to check who it was, and the old lady started clearing the broken glass. Clyde saw no one, there was a piece of a paper lay on the ground outside the window.

"The Eye of the Tiger will be mine."

Clyde took the piece of paper inside. Fini had calmed down with Tigris by her side. 'They are after you, Tigris.' Clyde suggested and showed the paper to Tigris. 'No danger can ever scare me!' Tigris spoke with a scared undertone. This was just a warning for what was about to come. Clyde quickly wrote up a small note and placed it in the compartment on Dela's leg. 'Take this to General Hearty immediately.' As soon as Dela heard that, it flew into the skies.

They apologised to the old lady for the mess they had caused, and left on their way to Meridus.

The forest seemed much quieter than before. They all decided to take turns guarding the camp for the night. There was no action throughout the forest. The platoon quickly reached the wide, straight path to Meridus. They rushed the path and reached the gates of Meridus.
