My beauty sleep is interrupted on this fine Thursday morning by my wonderful alarm clock. Note the sarcasm. Please. Lazily I get out of bed, trudging to the bathroom to shower. I slip off my pajamas and step into the shower. The hot water washes all the sleep off me and I step out. Briefly wrapping a towel around myself, I walk back into my room. In my room, I change into clothes and brush my hair after drying it. Keeping my makeup to a minimum, I pull on some combat boots calling my outfit good. Before heading to school I grab my phone, wallet, and my keys.
The school day went by like usual. I would go to my classes, sit in the corner by the window, and ponder my life. When I went to lunch, Jaden joined me. Classes came and went, soon enough, the school was out. After school, I went to the dance studio and danced 'til eight o'clock before heading home. At home, I ate dinner and got ready for bed, getting some homework done before passing out while watching Gossip Girl.
Finally, the day came. It was Friday. The day of the party. A day I was dreading to come. Usually, I love Fridays, but not today. Currently, I'm walking to lunch. Once I arrive at the cafeteria, I grab my usual salad and chips before sitting at my usual table. I pull on my headphones and start listening to my music. I'm halfway done with my lunch when I feel a presence in front of me. Intending to see Jaden when I look up, however, I see Mason instead. Confused, I raise an eyebrow while pulling my headphones down to my neck and wait for him to speak.
When he doesn't say anything I ask, "Yes?"
"You're coming to my party tonight, right?" he questions.
"Yeah, why?" I answer with a question. Which for some reason makes him smirk. Do these boys only smirk?
"Save me a dance?" he asks, so I shrug.
"If you're worth saving," I casually, standing up and putting my headphones back in my ears. Leaving Mason to stand by himself, I walk off and throw away my trash before heading to my next class.
The rest of the day goes by like usual, boring and slow. I'm finally dismissed from school, so I leave the building and walk over to my bike. I swing my leg over the seat and start it. Pulling out of the parking lot, I take the ten-minute ride home. When I get home, I feed Jet and eat a banana after walking inside. Once I finish my banana, I go up to my room and do homework.
The party starts at 7 o'clock and it's currently 4:15. After finishing my homework, I look at the clock and notice it's almost 5 o'clock, making a sigh escape my lips. I wasn't looking forward to this party, but I just want to get it over with. Deciding to get ready, I head towards the bathroom and shower. Once I'm all clean and shaved, I slide into the outfit that I got the other day at the mall. Looking at myself in the body length mirror, I notice that my skin has gotten more tan from the summer sun and my figure overall is still the same. Going back to the bathroom, I get the hair dye that I've had for a little while. After wrapping a towel around me like a cape, I start putting the dye in my hair and finish soon enough. Minutes later I rinse my hair, drying it while brushing it out. I do my makeup, keeping it minimalistic. Looking into the mirror, I smile a little. Not that bad for my first time doing it myself.
I straighten my hair, making it look longer than usual before brushing my teeth to stay fresh. Checking the time, I notice it 6:35. Oh gosh. I might be late. Note how much I care. Pulling on my shoes, I grab my phone and wallet before heading downstairs. While I grab my keys, I say bye to my dad and go out to my Jeep. Starting my Jeep, I peel out of the driveway while putting Mason's address into my GPS.
Eventually, I make it to Mason's house, which by the way, is more of a mansion. Music is blasting out of the open windows and wide-open front door. One would think a small earthquake is occurring by how the house is shaking with the music and crowd of people in and outside the house. Red solo cups are tossed everywhere and other teenagers are either sucking each other's mouths off or grinding on each other trying to start some physical reaction on one another. Walking up to the front door, I ring the doorbell even though the door is wide open and I doubt anyone can hear it. However, Mason appears from one of the many rooms in this house. He looks me up and down, smirking.
"Who might you be?" he asks. Raising an eyebrow I smirk. I can't tell if he's too intoxicated to think properly or if he's really just that dumb. I take a step closer to him and whisper in his ear.
"Emmaline, but you can call me Emma," I whisper, before pulling away and pushing by him. Going into the house which goes straight into the living room, where the furniture is pushed against walls, making the floor a good place to dance. This is probably why teens are all dancing there, while speakers surround a DJ turntable and music vibrates the room. As I go into another room, I recognize it as a kitchen. Seeing a few coolers on the countertops, I go over to one and check it. There are three, two have alcohol in them and one has soda. Deciding to stick with soda, I grab a Pepsi and pop it open. Quickly taking a swig, I go back to the living room. I search the room for familiar faces but don't recognize any. While I lean against a wall, I observe the people dancing. Which is more of just grinding, this makes me shiver in disgust. A very drunken guy walks over to me, getting up close and personal.
"Hey they babe, wanna dance?" he slurs. The smell of his breath makes me want to puke, but I hold off.
"Sorry, but you seem a little tipsy," I imply only making him smirks.
"I'm totally fine, girl. Just slightly drunk," he affirms and I roll my eyes. Before I can say anything, an arm wraps around my shoulders, and a deep voice speaks.
"Sorry, but she's with me," the familiar voice states. The drunken guy glares at the guy beside me and walks off, muttering things under his breath. When I look up at the person beside me, I immediately shrug his arm off my shoulders.
"You know, I can take care of myself," I say causing a smirk to fall on his face.
"I know you can princess," he responds. I roll my eyes at the nickname. "Wanna dance?" he asks.
"Why would I dance with you?" I question rhetorically, making him chuckle.
"Because I have killer dance moves," he answers. I roll my eyes at his response.
"Yeah, and I have a dick," I reply sarcastically making him laugh.
"Come on, just one dance. That's it, I promise," he begs after his laughter dies down. I sigh escapes his lips.
"Fine, but only one dance, and please don't embarrass me," I give in which he laughs at.
"You sure you won't embarrass yourself?" he teases making me raise an eyebrow.
"Is that a challenge?" I ask challengingly. He shrugs.
"Kind of," he replies simply. A smirk reaches my lips.
"Get ready to be knocked down a few pegs," I state. He laughs and drags me to the middle of the dance floor. To be honest, I haven't danced in heels in a while, but oh well. Talk Dirty To Me by Jason Derulo starts playing, and I start a little dance I choreographed yesterday to this song. Surprising right?
Soon people start circling around us, and some cheer for me, others cheer for Ashton. At one point I just start improvising. Ashton watches me and laughs a little. I step up to him and push him backward causing him to fall into the crowd. They stop him from stepping back in and I laugh a little. Worth It by Fifth Harmony starts and I start dancing again. People start fist-pumping and someone steps in. I step back to see who it is, and low and behold it's Mason. He smirks at me and starts dancing. I put my hands on my hips, looking at my nails pretending not to be interested. Then I see a good place to interject and step up in front of him and start dancing.
Turning around, I back up into him. He grabs onto my hips and I sway back and forth a few times before turning and pushing him backward just like I did to Ashton. People cheer. I start dancing adding a lot more confidence and sass into it. People cheer. Then the crowd pushes both Mason and Ashton into the circle, I laugh. They look at each other and smirk. They start dancing and at one point, Mason runs up Ashton's back and does a backflip. I raise my eyebrows. The song changes and I listen closely. Then I remember it as the music that goes along with my other dance.
So I listen to the music until I choose a perfect time to start. When I start I notice the boys have stopped and are breathing heavily while watching me. I look at Mason and soon he recognizes the dance. He picks up to the moves and joins me. In the end, we are breathing heavily and everyone is cheering loudly. I leave the circle and go into the kitchen. Quickly grabbing a water bottle from a cooler, I drink half the bottle. Then, both Ashton and Mason walk in. They grab water bottles and take swigs from the bottles. After that, they look at me and smirk.
"So you're a dancer?" Ashton asks. I shrug nonchalantly.
"Not really," I reply simply making Mason scoff.
"That's such a lie," Mason states, so I roll my eyes. I check the time on my phone and notice it's already ten o'clock.
"Well I need some fresh air, can you point me to the back door?" I direct the last part at Mason. He tells me the directions and I leave them to go outside. When I reach outside I take a deep breath in and out and take another swig from the water bottle. I hear the back door open and someone leans on the other side of the porch archway.
"You're really good at dancing," the person says, which I immediately know as Ashton. I sigh.
"It's in my genes," I state.
"How long have you been dancing?" he questions. I shrug.
"I danced from when I was able to walk until I was eight years old. Something happened and I stopped for a while. I started again when I was twelve, but stopped when I started high school. I haven't danced since, I started a while ago, but I don't know if I can still do it," I tell him honestly.
"I think you can," he says honestly.
"Keyword. Think. You don't know, because you can't know unless you know why I stopped, and how I learned. You can never know something without knowing all the details first," I state. He chuckles lightly.
"You remind me of Axel. All wise words yet you know nothing about what you should do about your own self," he says. I furrow my eyebrows together.
"I know what I should do, I'm just confused on why," I tell. "I don't know why I'm telling you this. I have nothing to prove to you," I say after a few moments of silence. I check the time and notice it's half an hour 'til my curfew. I sigh. "Well I got to go," I state. Walking back inside, I head to the front door and go to my Jeep. Once I get in, I drive home while thinking about the events that went on tonight.
In minutes, I'm home before my curfew. Getting into my house, I head up to my room silently with Jet following close behind me. Briefly changing into my pajamas and washing off my makeup, I pull my hair into a messy bun. I crawl into bed, snuggling up with Jet.
I miss you, mom. I wish you were here. I'm always thinking about you, and hope you're proud of me.
Those are the last words that go through my head before I fall asleep.
