Chapter 30 - To Trust Her

"Your Excellency, the Emperor is here." A calm voice of a servant ratified from outside Selestia's door.

Selestia rolled her eyes. Pretentiously, she picked up a book from beside her and professed with no genuine thoughts whatsoever.

"Let him in..." she exhaled. In that instant, she rested her back on the stacked pillows on the bed and her eyes tracked the words imprinted on them.

The door creaked, composed and with no reaction, Selestia drowned her face in the book. The heels on his shoes created a clack against the floor as he proceeded to pursue where she sat.

"You seemed to be truly interested in the golds of Thuhelda, my Empress." he gleamed.

'Is he suspecting me of wanting their gold?' She grimaced and looked at him.

"I am the Empress, aren't I? Is it not my duty to learn of what this empire possess?" she falsified a smile on her face, though deep down, she wanted to not see his face.

His face would only make her waver, she could not stand the fact that she greatly opposed a man of beauty. Venemiah nodded since there was a fair share of point within her words.

"Then, may you leave your studies for a moment so that we may take a stroll?"

Selestia gazed at him. "Why the sudden do you, an Emperor want to take a stroll with me? Don't you have anywhere else to attend to? Forgive me if I do seem rude, but I am simply curious." she peered.

Venemiah subtly grimaced. "For someone like you, you do know how to upset an Emperor with your words."

Selestia darted her eyes on him with filth, it was an open window to her mind, and it was enough to tell that what she was speaking lies within the dark abyss behind those raging, fire pupils.

"May I remind you that you were doing so idly with your first duty..."

Selestia's grimace grew, she gently threw the book across the bed and gawked at him. "My, I knew not you count deeds..."

Venemiah's domineering voice suddenly withdrew. "Where could have you gone to that caused your irritated state?"

"Nowhere," she said, her eyes avoiding his sights which were terribly gawking at her. Her cold response surrounded the room with a chilly atmosphere and led the man to tense.

"Oh, I reminisced something." she smiled.

Venemiah subtly tilted his head in anticipation. She gradually moved closer to him, her foot left the bed and rested on the cold hardwood floor, her shoulders subtly bumped him, and her hands were established lightly on the bed.

"By any chance, do you know what happened eight years ago that caused the nobles to be extruded from their Noble titles?" Her eyes lit brightly with curiosity and will to know.

It was for certain that she was only bluffing when she told Elsbeth she knew why they were extruded from their positions, she does bear a hypothesis of her own, but a fact is a fact.

"Why do you seem to be interested in what transpired a couple of years ago?" his lips curved into a compelled smile.

Selestia was expressionless and Venemiah was aware of the expression she sculpted on her countenance. He simply cast a sigh, his hands crossed each other, and thereafter, he spoke.

"Save yourself from the afflictions of this nation, my empress. There are things you should know, and some which you shouldn't."

Briefly after, he stood up and gazed at her who sat herself with her face in contortion. "If you behave as you are currently doing, how will I allow myself to trust you?"

Selestia gazed at him in an ill manner. 'I am aggravated to know that what he says certainly has a point...'

She sighed, and immediately thereupon, she gulped as if she was swallowed the pride that was consistently present, and was lingering within her invariably. "I beg for your forgiveness, Your Excellency. " she bowed feigning modesty as she professed a pretentious yield.

"I do not intend, and never aspired for you to look at my deeds of curiosity that way. I humbly wished to suffice my... " she paused, a revolted look sketched the fine lines of her countenance, compelled to say what she was about to. "...insecure constitution."

Venemiah looked at her with eyes that glowed with worry. His hand drifted to her face as he lifted it, and slowly, his thumb caressed her jawline. "How come are you driven with jealousy?" he lovingly mouthed.

Selestia looked away, "Why are you here, Your Excellency? Do you have any relations to attend to hither?" Her gauche voice awkwardly sounded as she led the subject away. Selestia do not want to talk about which she could not even try to convey that she never felt beforehand.

"You are the only matter that held the greatest precedence to bring me to come here," he spoke.

His hands gently sauntered into thin air, it held her chin as both their eyes met with affection glowing within the morning of his dark pupils. "Though it bothered me greatly that you harbor jealousy against mere nobles when you are the Empress."

His hands swirled around a lock of her hair, apologetically, he added into his notions. "Save your worries, my Empress. There are nothing that goes beyond you, you are the highest of all the highs. Your name will be history, but your glory will remain. Selestia, fear not what you can't reach for there is nothing left to achieve but to love yourself."

Selestia stared at him, her face crinkled with much convolutions. Her mind spoke for itself, conversing with her. 'What is he vying to attain? To spend unnecessary leisure just to praise me, would it not be true when they forenamed him a frigid emperor? If he were, he would not have to reassure me more than once of what I hold. Is this man's softness dependent on women?'

A trail of notions trailed her mind. 'Then, is this why he behaved exemplary different toward me?'

The corner of her lips gently curled up into a smirk. 'Then, this is the perfect chance for me to get what I wanted and I needed.'

"I beg of you, my Emperor. Refrain from singing me praises, you could have spent this hour to do your duty than leisurely take up your time and deal with me," Selestia paltered.

Venemiah smiled. "You are the prior of my duties."
