According to her, being good friends with Mara was a very extraordinary thing. Because all this time, Mara had been unfriendly and even hated Jade. But after knowing the news that Mara would finally protect her from any harm, Jade was happy.
Jade, who had the chance to talk to Mara, approached that female vampire. She was sitting with Teddy, laughing together, with her boyfriend.
"Oh, hey Teddy, can I talk to Mara in person?" Jade asked.
"Of course. If she bites you, don't forget your pepper spray," Teddy told her with a laugh.
Jade laughed along and smiled. She then sat beside Mara. The girl looked cold and reluctant to admit that she had accepted Jade's existence. Her body stiffened like a normal vampire.
"Mara, are we really friends now?" Jade asked.
"What do you think?"
Jade sighed. Her question was reversed by her and of course Jade was confused. But she heard a rather friendly tone in Mara's voice. It's not like she used to speak in a hateful tone.
"Okay, we're friends now," Jade said then. She chose to take the easy step rather than trouble herself.
"Okay. Is there anything else you want to say?"
Mara's question sounds like a trap. Either she still wanted to talk to Jade or end their chat. But Jade, of course, would find other ways to get closer to Mara.
"Yeah, sure. Errr, about Sherly and Max," Jade said in a small whisper.
Mara glanced at Max who was trying to eavesdrop on their conversation. She smiled at her brother and then looked at Jade. "Not here. He's eavesdropping," said Mara.
Jade looked straight at Max. She chuckled and shook her head at Max to keep from eavesdropping on their conversation. "Well, but if we move anywhere, won't Max hear what we're talking about?"
"At least don't talk in his presence, he's the kind of person who is so confident."
Max chuckled and laughed when he heard his sister's words. He nodded and then chose to leave, to give in.
"In the end, he relented, Jade," said Mara.
"Okay then, do you have a photo of Sherly? I'm curious about the girl's face."
Unfortunately, Mara shook her head. "I don't think her face is that important. You're more important, Jade. Maybe you're not afraid of her, but you still have to be careful. She's always wanted to be with Max, but no one supported her or Max himself even turned her down in a subtle way until rough though."
With all her curiosity and enthusiasm, Jade listened to Mara's story. She didn't even realize that Max was suddenly by her side, forced to listen in on her directly.
"Mara is obsessed with him. It's not like love anymore, but she's so crazy about Max!" said Mara at the end of the story.
"Like I'm so crazy about you," Max said in Jade's ear.
Jade gasped and looked straight at him. She hit Max's arm even though she knew he wouldn't feel any pain. "Since when have you been here?" Jade asked him.
"Just now," Max replied, smiling.
Mara chuckled and got up. "I'm done telling the story. The rest, you can ask your vampire boyfriend directly, Jade."
Before Jade could say thank you, Mara had already left quickly and left a gust of wind. She couldn't help but wish to become a vampire.
"Why do you look at Mara's like that?" Max asked, kissing Jade's hair.
"If I'm not mistaken, she is the prettiest among Melwa and Maurin. Is that right?" Jade asked, still unmoved.
Max just mumbled. "But my girlfriend is certainly prettier than her."
Only then did Jade chuckle and start feeling Max's kisses on her hair. She smiled, caressed Max's cold cheek, and looked at him.
"I want to be like Mara, like you and the others," Jade told her.
Max immediately pulled himself up. His face and body stiffened hearing the wishes of his girlfriend who again wished the same thing.
"Jade, no ... please, don't bring that up again."
"Sometimes I'm jealous, when shouldn't I be grateful to be human? But seeing your strengths, I feel amazed and want to be the same. I also don't want to age. I want to be immortal."
Max touched her hand. He looked at Jade with love and admiration. "Not now. You have to be patient. You and I have a lot to go through, Jade."
***
Gunshots were heard several times. Jade, who was at home and in her room, then got up from the bed. She closed the book she was reading and looked out the window.
She saw nothing but moving lights and repeated loud gunshots.
Jade immediately went downstairs and checked on her father. There was not any. No one but her.
She thought it was her father who shot it. Zack was shooting a vampire who was suspected to be a female vampire who has been being targeted.
Jade couldn't leave the house. Because every time her father went out, she was reminded that she had to be home and when he came back, Zack would check on her.
There was a loud knock on the door, interrupting her thoughts and adding to the feeling of horror in the solitude.
She searched everywhere for her pepper spray and when she found it, she was prepared to spray it if indeed something evil was on her doorstep.
The knocking sound was even louder. Jade hastily opened it and got ready. She was immediately legal as soon as she knew that it was Max in front of her.
"Sherly!" Max hissed, staring behind Jade with a hateful look.
Jade immediately glared at him and looked behind her. Then a scratch on her neck was scratched by Sherly's nail. Jade was shocked and fell into Max's arms and Sherly smiled satisfied. Of course, she immediately ran away when there was a gap and was satisfied with her initial game.
"Jade!" Max shouted frantically.
