Chapter 5 - Best Parents

Evan Livares narrowed his eyes when he heard his father. "Ever since I was young, you know that I wish to follow in your footsteps, Dad. Besides, I already spent two years in the Cadet Force and I love it. I don't have any other dreams apart from joining the military."

Major General Rylan smiled at his son's response. "I'm glad that you're firm in what you want but... you see your mother." He sighed and continued, "If you serve the country, you will end up like me."

Recalling how his mother treated his father earlier, Evan laughed. "But Mom still loves you. She acts that way but you and I both know that she is very happy to see you."

"Look at you, talking about love," Rylan Livares pointed out with a chuckle and slightly leaned closer towards his son. "Do you have someone you like?"

"Dad," Evan uttered and sighed, making the father laugh.

"Why, son? You're 18 and you will graduate from high school after a year." He flashed a playful smile and added, "At your age, I already met your mother and fell for her."

"I'm well aware of that," Evan Livares responded and let out a sigh. "You two met in high school and you already tell me the story so many times that I will be able to narrate it myself by now."

Shaking his head out of amusement, Mr. Livares let out a chuckle. "You don't have someone you like? I have a feeling that you have but keep it from me." Leaning closer once again, he patted on his son's shoulder and said, "If you plan to join the military, then you should find someone to marry before that." He helplessly sighed and continued, "Once you joined, it will be hard for you to even meet new people."

At his father's advice, Evan recalled his encounter with Aviana in the evening. However, he quickly attempted to brush it off his mind.

Here, his father was talking about marriage yet why did he think of her?

She's taken, for god's sake! And he was convinced that it was unlikely for Aviana and Levi to break up while they spent almost all their time together.

"What are you thinking, young man?"

His father's voice snapped Evan out of his thoughts and he quickly looked at his father, only to realize how he was staring at him with curiosity written all over his face.

"Nothing," Evan Livares promptly said and flashed an awkward smile.

Rylan Livares sighed. "You have me curious. I think I should tail you one day to find out what this is all about."

"I think you're too busy for that, Dad." Evan frowned.

"I can just send Sergeant Adriel to do the job for me," the father stated with a victorious smile.

"If Mom hears this, she will surely be disappointed," Evan argued yet there was a menacing smile on his face. He knew very well that his father's weakness was always his mother and... it was always useful in this kind of situation!

"There you go again." Major General Rylan shook his head but his face brightened up the next second. "If she knows that there might be a girl in your life, I'm sure that she will do the tailing before I get the chance."

Evan Livares can't help but sighed when he realized that his mother might really be willing to do that. Nevertheless, he didn't know what to say and it only worked to the amusement of his playful father.

"My son is mature enough to have a woman in his life now. How time flies!" Before Evan could say anything, he rose from his seat. "Just tell me if you have a problem. I will help you out."

With that said, he walked out of Evan's room, making the latter smile.

He sure had the best parents in this world!

It was Friday and as planned the day before, Evan will be having a meeting with his fellow cadets of the Cadet Force after school. For that, he had to wear the uniform of the Cadet Force at school like he often did.

The uniform consisted of - a sky blue buttoned-down shirt with long sleeves; dark blue pants; a black leather belt with a steel rectangular-shaped buckle that had the logo of the Cadet Force in the middle; a neckerchief of sky blue color tied around his collar; a dark blue blazer that had the logo of the Cadet Force in the left pocket and a short black leather boot.

Though a dark blue beret cap with the logo of the Cadet Force on the left was also included in the uniform, Evan didn't have to wear it now and only during the session of the Cadet Force which will be after school.

Once he was all set, Evan took his bike keys and helmet, carried his bag, and went downstairs.

"Are you driving your bike today?"

It was his mother who asked him the question the moment she saw the helmet in his hand.

Evan nodded and jokingly replied, "You and dad bought it for me though I never ask for it. So, I should at least make good use of it."

His motorbike, CBR 650R black in color, was a gift from his parents a month ago when he turned 18. Evan personally believed that he didn't need it as he was still a student. Though he didn't ride it to school every day, he drove it from time to time not to upset his parents who spent a lot of money on it.

Mrs. Livares laughed at her son's response and then looked at her daughter who was sitting on a couch, wearing her own school uniform. "Your brother is this handsome and on top of that, he will be driving his bike while wearing his Cadet Force uniform. Do you think it will be more than enough to distract the girls at his school, Emily?"

Emily Livares frowned when she heard her mother. "Why are you saying that, Mom? Do you want to be called to his school again because some girls fought over him?"

With the funny incident from the past being brought up, Sylvia Livares laughed. "You're right." She let out a sigh and said, "It's quite tiring to have a super handsome son."

Staring at his mother and younger sister who discussed about him as if he wasn't even there, Evan Livares shook his head in displeasure. "I'm going to school," he bluntly declared and walked out of the house, making Emily and his mother burst out into laughter.....
