This voice... Cherish Turner turned around in surprise to see William Griffith standing behind her at some point. She jumped, reflexively taking a step back, losing her footing, and stumbled out onto the road. A car was quickly approaching from the side, he quickly reached out and grabbed her arm, yanking her protectively into his embrace.
Cherish's head bumped against his chest, the warm and painful sensation made her tremble.
When Cherish came to her senses and realized his arms were around her, she quickly stepped back, leaving his broad and sturdy embrace. She wasn't sure whether it was fear of lingering feelings that would make it hard to let go, or a reminder to herself not to harbor any extra thoughts of longing, recognizing the fact that they had already broken up.
But her actions caused William Griffith to furrow his brows. Was she trying to set boundaries?
