Chapter 36 - Failure

As if the hell's itself descended upon the surface, my flames savagely started destroying everything in their path. Striving for nothing but its sole purpose of existence and creation, in the seek of destruction, my blood-colored flames melted away their skin, bones, and all kinds of parts that belonged to their body with their relentless advance.

And as the flames advanced more and more, ending their miserable lives, images of the burning enemies, whose figures got reduced to ashes with every millisecond that passed under a deadly power that belonged to no other person but me, all of these reflected from my entranced eyes. I watched, watched, and continued watching as if this was a scene from a movie, a good, beautiful, yet a deadly one...

There wasn't even a single crumb of mercy in my heart to show them, as here, in this white hell, showing mercy to these soulless creatures means bringing your own end, nor do I have that privilege. Even thinking about something like mercy is ridiculous. They are my enemies, and my enemies must die.

However, before letting me see their condition, the veil of steam emanated from their burned corpses dissipated slowly before revealing the surrounding scene. The imps that surrounded me earlier while attacking frantically had now become just a pile of ash and empty shells containing no life.

But after a few seconds of observation, the hot steam ascending from the corpses completely vanished, allowing me to see the shady figures of the survivors of this holocaust that were unhurriedly walking towards my body lying down on the ground.

Evidently, this showed that my flames weren't enough to kill all 300. Truthfully, I expected this outcome, but, like a sickness, hope made me think there was a chance for me. It made me believe I could be saved. I could still win this battle even if there were just a 1% chance.

And now, it seems, this time, I wasn't that lucky enough to be in that 1%.

*Step*

Turning my gaze onto the imp that was making his way through me with slow steps by stepping on his fallen, burnt comrades. Watching my death coming towards me with tired eyes, by his speed, I could understand he was injured and wounded too, as yet not enough to stop him from moving around.

Now and then, letting out a little growl escape from his mouth, he walked near me with his injured legs until halting his steps right before me. Standing there, both of us glanced at each other for a split second, knowing what would happen afterward.

He started his feast on my body by getting on his knees, reaching out to my body with his claws, and tearing up my skin to get to my flesh, organs, or whatever his kind eats. Turning my gaze to the white sky, neither a scream nor a single word came out of my mouth as he devoured my body by ripping off my flesh, drinking on my blood.

*Step*

Not long passed before I heard the other steps coming towards here to join their friend in this feast, yet I didn't even bother turning my head to look. I was tired. My body didn't have the strength to move even an inch.

I could feel their teeth digging deeper and deeper into my body, pain, agony, all of these feelings hit my mind at once, yet I didn't say something, nor did anything; the only thing I could do was shut my eyes and wait until this wicked torture ended.

Maybe choosing death was coming this easily to me just because I knew I would revive at the end of the day, or maybe it was this easy to accept because I didn't care about my life. I don't know... Dozens of questions and half-answers flew through my mind with as many thoughts.

But I knew one thing for sure: that is now death has become a normal thing for me.

As the last light faded away from my eyes, a familiar insensitive coldness covered my entire soul with loneliness; I fell into the depths of darkness once more.

...

...

...

Clueless about the time passing outside, my selfness floated through this "friendly" environment without a sense of direction or a time sense. Cold, alone, I did the only thing I could do in this condition and floated into the depths of darkness while waiting for the time when the light would come to pull me out of this madness.

Just my luck, it didn't take too much time...

...

...

...

*Thump*

*Thump!*

*Thump!!*

*Inhale*

Leaving the eternal coldness behind and feeling the warmness spreading across my body with each heartbeat, both of my eyes opened to be welcomed by the white sky. But before doing anything, like a drowning person who is desperately trying to survive, to supply oxygen to my body, my instincts took over me as I drew in a deep breath until I felt my lungs reached their maximum capacity.

Constantly coughing for one minute, I completely took over the control of my senses again.

[TRIAL FAILED]

(PATH OF SWORD- 0,3>0,4%)

[THE PLAYER WILL BE REWARDED WITH EXP EQUAL TO THE ENEMY HE KILLED BEFORE HIS DEATH IN THE TRIAL]

[YOU'VE GAINED 8,450 EXP] [LEVEL: 20 (8,320>16,770/30,000)]

Concentrating my vision on the panels, "Ugh, not so surprised," I got up whiningly.

Well, at least I learned a few things from this failure. For example, I am weak and need to go back to training as my current strength isn't enough to complete the waves.

Then, there is no meaning in losing time looking around foolishly. The earlier I start, the earlier I complete. With this simple yet practical mindset, getting the Torchlight out of my inventory, I started my boring training once more.
