"I have seen the dark universe yawning, where the black planets roll without aim. Where they roll in their horror unheeded, without knowledge, luster, or name."
-H.P. Lovecraft

"Here I stand at the cusp of my triumph. Decades of effort for this one moment" A mad cackle escapes from the person of one Dr. Alexander Kyne as he stares at his life's work.
'They called me a fool, they laughed in my face' He thought, seething at the memories of his various colleagues dismissing his work, his vision. 'We shall see who'll have the last laugh' With that thought Dr. Kyne raised his arms, and set to work.
Various machines began to hum and the many apparatuses strewn across the lab moved under his diligent hand. He wired one machine to another, assembled various bits and pieces, and once a certain machine finished its preparations, he stood in front of it and began the most important part.
His hands weaved a pattern across the digital screen in front of him. Each stroke and line creating a new reaction and splitting the bonds of the molecules within the vast chamber in front of him. With a flick of his wrist, neutrons and protons coalesce together and with a simple hand movement, atoms are split in twain and added into the mix.
As he works a reaction slowly forms within the chamber. It starts as a spark, a light that shines in the middle of the darkness of the room. Soon that light begins to widen and grow brighter, from the size of a coin to that same circumference as a Basketball. With each move from Dr. Kyne's hands the light grows and with each move it burns ever brighter.
A slow hum fills the chamber as the light grows. The hum is a soothing sound to Dr. Kyne. A Melody for his greatest performance yet. He laughs as he works, each passing minute helping him come closer and closer to his goal. He laughs in utter glee at the thought of his impending victory over the narrowmindedness of scientists worldwide.
Then, a banging sound fills the lab. Voices shout from the other side of the steel reinforced door, the only point of access to the laboratory where Dr. Kyne works.
"Alexander Kyne! Open the door this instant! You are trespassing on government property and handling equipment not sanctioned for use! Open this door and come out peacefully or we will be forced to use lethal force!" An authoritative voice yells through the speakers as the door rattles once again from the people attempting to open it.
Dr. Kyne doesn't even turn his head. Staring intently at his work as he speaks, "You are fools, all of you, if you think I will give up now that I am the cusp of my triumph!" He continues to weave the patterns and break down the molecules, not even glancing as the door's banging turns more violent.
"Kyne! Open this door or we will gas you out of there!" Another voice yells through the intercom, but Dr. Kyne ignores them knowing that he has sealed all the vents connecting the room to the outside. A moment passes and the people outside realize this as well judging by the muttered cursing that comes from the door.
"It's no use!" Dr. Kyne yells out in joy, "My life's work is coming to fruition and nothing you can do will stop me!", He laughs once again before swiping his hand across the digital screen.
The slow hum coming from the room turns into the blaring of a horn as a small black mass forms in the middle of the now tire sized ball of light. The black mass is the size of a pinprick and yet it has a profound effect on the experiment as soon red lights signal an emergency happening within the test chamber.
The banging on the door turns frantic as whoever is outside realizes the severity of the situation. Readings from a console in another part of the facility indicate an increase in the gravitational pressure of the test chamber.
Such a change in gravity soon shows as the metal surrounding the mass of light and dark begins to warp and bend. Shards of metal break off and are sucked into the slowly growing black mass in the middle of the light. The red emergency lights around the room splinter and break into pieces as the blaring coming from the object becomes louder and louder by the minute.
"Yes! YES! It is nearly complete!" Dr. Kyne yells out in joy as his hands move even faster than before. His mind and body a blur of thought and movement as he closes in on his goal. Metal around the object within the room begins to melt and turn into slag as the black mass within the light slowly grows bigger.
Soon enough the Black mass has taken up the central space of the Light. The Light being delegated to the edges of the sphere. The test chambers gravity becomes so immense that the walls and the floor begin to dent due to the sheer pressure being emitted by the object within.
Then, a wrenching sound is heard as the door to the lab proper burst open. Multiple soldiers and scientists rush into the room but Dr. Kyne calmly presses a button beside him. A wall of hard light materializes between him and the people who have come into the room, effectively blocking them out.
"Alexander stop! If whatever you're doing ruptures it could cause a catastrophic explosion that will level the city!" One of the scientists yells out as the soldiers attempt to get through the Hard light wall only to fail utterly. One of them even pulls out his pistol and fires at the wall but the bullet merely bounces off its surface.
"I can't stop when I am so close to success! It'll only be minute now and my masterpiece will finally be revealed!" Dr. Kyne yells at them as with one last flick of his finger he finishes his work.
The blaring sound within the test chamber ceases immediately as the object within grows rapidly in size. It soon begins to eat at the floor, the walls, and the ceiling. The men yell out in shock as the wall in front of Dr. Kyne tears off and is absorbed by the object. However, before Dr. Kyne can be swallowed along with the wall the object immediately reverses back into a form the size of a golf-ball.
Devastation surrounds what was once the test chamber as the walls and ceiling have been torn apart exposing the object to the outside. The ground itself has been caved in and turned into a small crater, above which floats the object.
"What have you done!" One of the scientists yells in fear as everyone else stares in shock. People outside the lab look at the object in fright as well.
Dr. Kyne jumps down from the Observation deck and calmly walks towards the object.
Where once it was a solid mass of black surrounded by a ring of incandescent light. The object now sports an eerie orange glow in its center. Dr. Kyne looks at the object before turning towards his captivated audience.
"A thousand years of science and learning has led me to this point, this singular step that will transcend above all others!"
Dr. Kyne stared into the abyss with wild eyes.
"For what is Gravity if not a harness, and if one harnesses the harness. Is he then considered its master?"
Dr. Kyne reaches out and grabs the orb, immediately he cries out in pain as the orb begins to flow into the very skin of his arms, yellow lines highlight the veins of his arm slowly spreading all along his body. As it reaches his head his eyes glow like the sun itself and all who look upon him have to shield their eyes due to the intensity of the light.
Then he falls silent and everybody stares at his unmoving form with bated breath.

Dr. Kyne's eyes open showing pooling orbs of darkness along with yellow light. He begins to float, ascending from the very ground that his people have been made to work for thousands of years. He feels like a god.... No.
He knows he is one.

The being that was once Dr. Kyne raises his hands up to the sky and from the sky a rift forms with a spiderweb like look. With his will he tears a hole in the ozone layer exposing the city above to the endless void of space.
He laughs in a distorted voice as he rises ever higher into the sky and stares down at the city below him, at the insignificant specs of the people below who have not achieved ascendance like him.
And he laughs, he laughs as the Sun's rays begins to shine through the rift in the ozone layer burning buildings and people alike. He laughs as people below suffocate as the oxygen of the world is sent hurtling out into the void of space. He turns around and laughs even harder
He laughs as the void of space moves and a being of incandescent light and utter darkness stares at him.
