Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 - Asking Questions

Clay couldn't believe what he was staring at. Looking at everything on the screen that had appeared before him, it looked familiar, they were the classes from Dungeons and Dragons. Clay was speechless, 'Ok I think that settles it, these are the last seconds of my life. I guess this is what happens when you read too many mangas and play a lot of D&D.' Before Clay could do anything else another message appeared.

[You have been granted a second. It is advised that you select a before the time is up.]

Clay was startled by the new message that had appeared before. After taking some time to collect his thoughts he decided to ask a question.

'What happens if I don't choose before the time is up?' After he asked the question another message appeared.

[A will be randomly selected for you. The may not be in line with the natural attributes that your body and soul have.]

Clay went silent again. A small-time passed before he was ready to ask another question.

'What are the attributes?' A brief time passed and he had received a new message.

[There are six different attributes. The attributes are Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma. The different rely on the different attributes to excel at what they need to do.]

Reading the new message, Clay was pleasantly surprised by this piece of information. It also made his situation a lot easier to understand, if everything else was similar to D&D logic then he should choose carefully. Then again the system mentioned natural attributes.

'Is it possible for you to tell me what natural attributes I have?' When Clay asked his question, there was a long time of silence. Clay was unsettled by the long silence. 'Did I break the system?' Even more, time had passed, Clay was regretting his decision when a new message appeared.

[A definitive reading cannot be done at this time. However, a general approximation can be made. The top four attributes that you are the most inclined to are Strength, Constitution, Dexterity, and Wisdom, in that order.]

The message surprised Clay quite a bit. When he was younger he was a lot faster, stronger, and stalwart. But later on, he became frail and weak. Curious, he asked the system about it. 'When I was … alive, I wasn't in the best shape physically, why would my strength and constitution be the highest?'

[If given better conditions, you would have been able to excel in the given attributes. But due to circumstances, you were unable to. That and you failed to take into account the new physical body.]

Confused, Clay asked, 'Wouldn't I be given a new body, or will my new body just be a copy of my original body from earth, isn't that how things usually go?'

[A new body will be obtained through the most common way of a soul being placed into their body.]

Clay was confused for only a second before he started to connect the dots.

'Does that me-'

[Yes]

'And the timer-'

[Yes]

Clay stared at the message with dread. He had to experience something that he never thought about. The process of being birthed. Looking at the timer he realized that he still had some breathing room before then, so now he was left with one question that bothered him to no end.

'What class should I choose?' Clay, given his previous knowledge of D&D, would excel in picking a few different classes that would go great with his natural attributes. But he still asked the system which he should choose, to see if there was anything that he was missing. Or if the classes were different from what he understands them to be.

[There are two that fit you the best. The first is the . Given your new body's DNA and your soul's inclination towards the attributes Strength and Constitution, the offers you a wide variety of offense and defenses capability. The special ability is being able to harness their anger, giving them a short burst of increased strength and vitality. The abilities and traits make the a perfect close-quarters combatant.]

Reading the message Clay wanted to ask something else but the system sent him another message.

[The would be the second-best option for you. They are known for being a jack of all trades master of none. Being able to use excel in both close quarter and long-range combat. They are also able to learn the arcane arts without needing to start the back a square one as a magic caster.]

Clay took some time to think. 'The classes are the ones that I know of. I always did like playing as a fighter before life took a turn for the worse.' Pain crept into his heart, remembering how he used to hang out with his few, but close, friends. 'In the last message, you said that you can learn how to become another class. Does that mean I can be something like a monk and a wizard?'

[Yes, it is possible to select a main and gain a second later in life when the opportunity presents itself. However, there are requirements to gain the second class. Using the example given, for a to become a they must acquire enough Intelligence, and have a mentor that has a main of . With both requirements fulfilled they would gain the secondary of .]

Clay mentally nodded his head, but he still had one more question before he chose. 'If I were to pick a class like wizard, even though my attributes are better for one of the other classes, what would happen?'

[Nothing would happen, you would still be able to use the just to a lesser extent. Some have an attribute that they pull the magic power from. pull from the Intelligence attribute. Although it is not advised you select a spellcasting class at the time, as your Intelligence and Charisma seem to be the lowest attribute.]

It felt a little insulting being called stupid and dull by the system that was gifted to him but, Clay agreed with the assessment. When he was alive he wasn't the sharpest, he preferred working with his hands more than his head. But he was by no means that dumb, he just didn't like studying. As for Charisma, he knew that he was very introverted. He was never the outgoing type, he preferred to do his own thing instead.

'If you can gauge my body's attributes, then what else can you do?'

[The gift was given to boost your progress, and to keep track of your abilities. This is the main purpose of the gift.]

A long time had passed, and with some consideration, he decided on a class. 'I will go with the first recommended class, the barbarian.'

[ has been selected. Starting the body modification process.]

Staring at the new message Clay grew worried. 'What will this process entail to be exact?'

[It will further enhance your body, making it easier for you to level up your . In this case, your Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution will be increased. As stated before, the gift was given to help increase your progress. Would you like to proceed?]

'Yes.'
