I've been thinking about this for a while and this vacations only made it more clear to me. Im going on hiatus... For an unknown amount of time.
During this little vacation of mine I've read multiple other novels and fanfiction and came to the understanding that my story lacks something that the others have.
Before I tell you what this thing is if like to discuss some of the mistakes I've made so that you may learn from them and (if you ever write a story) not commit them as well.
Ive hurried up chapters just for the sake of having them written by the time of release.
I might make excuses such as: I didn't have enough time or I had to study for school.... But honestly I was just being lazy, I could have written it during the Weekends.
I've also clearly ignored constructive criticism to my writing due to either laziness or stubbornness .
The way I keep packing my story into 3 line paragraphs is a good example of this. I knew it can become rather tiring to read this paragraphs to some people, yet I kept doing it nonetheless because I found it more pleasant to the eye.
My comedy relied more on shock value or swear words instead of actual comedic situations or entertaining characters . While some novels can do fine with this... Mine can't... why? Because most of my novel was going to be spent with the Mc, and if the Mc isn't someone people can like .... Then they just won't.
I have made a lot of my plot on the spot without checking if it fitted in with the already planned plot... Not to mention it was a very cliché and boring plot... Because let's be honest God VS Man(plant in this case), is a overused gimmick.
While my initial idea was original-ish (plant Mc), I've ruined it by placing it in the wrong setting... I should have made the world into a superhero modern world.
At least that would been more fun to write about... And for you to read.
In a way you could say my begginning was my biggest mistake.
All in all, I've shown that I don't possess the most important skill necessary for a writer... Preparation and patience.
For just starting writting without putting sufficient thought into anything but the Mc's powers and abilities.
(let's be honest, I'm a little proud of the Mc's transformation from a cactus to a flower)
If I ever write a story again I'll be sure to actually put time and effort into planning a good plot and writing at least 30 chapter before I release the 1st chapter.
Thank for reading, and I'm sorry for not being able to provide you with the joy I promised to.
Wishing you happiness ,
Dnhelo
