(A. N. Yes I've wanted to use this pun for a while)
.
My current movement speed, at max level of 'young wind root manipulation', is about 0.16 km per hour.
'Nimbus' or rain clouds can be found below the 2 km mark which means normally I'd only have to ascend for about 12 hours before I reached a altitude where i could become self-sufficient.
Unfortunately, I was born in a desert.
Clouds are a rarity and while I previously had seen enough of them for me to survive .
I'd misjudged their distance from one another.
There ARE enough for me to survive in that regard I was correct, but they are so far apart that I can't just stay on one place and absorb them as they come.
Instead I have to constantly move in order to catch them.
Something, which my new word's "system" doesn't qualify as self sustainability.
I've though of several ways to go around this, but by far the best I could think of is to grow my roots around me.
If I where to grow my roots around me in the same way spiders build their webs, I'd be able to catch cloud like webs catch flies.
First I'll group every young root I have beneath me circling each other into a platform of sort so that I can have a place for my body to grow on in the future.
Afterwards I'll build teen roots in the 4 cardinal and the 4 ordinal directions.
From those teen roots I'll grow young roots and try to tie them up against one another.
This is only possible while they are close to me but once the distance between this main roots grows bigger than the distance my young roots can grow...
I'll think of something when that time comes, for now...it's growing time.

I always hated bugs, they're small and disgusting little things that get absolutely everywhere.
I initially thought that I wouldn't have issues with bugs on a desert and in a way I was right.
Since I came to this world I have never had to deal with "bugs".
To begin with they are rare in the desert and the few that exist are so weak I can overpower them with my aura turning them into useful nutrients.
But... If one where to expand the term bug from 'small insect' into a 'small annoying living being'.
Well... In this case birds might just be considered bugs.

This little guy's are called cactus wren... Just like the name suggest they grow around cacti.
The reason they are around me is that about a day and a half ago I flew above a cacti forest and this little fellows decided to tail me.
In the begginning there were a lot more but after noticing I have no fruits for them to feed on.
They flew back to the forest leaving only 3 bids left of which 2 are close to flying away .... The issue is the third one.
"Hey what kind of trash magic is this? Can't your roots remain stable? Remember, the trick is compressing your mana. "
He's been talking to me for the last hour and an half.
At first he didn't show anything weird besides some distinct yellow feathers on his otherwise brown plumage.
Neither did he show much interest in me besides saying "A flying cactus? Better than a burning one, can't lay down on those."
I have to admite that when I first heard him speak I nearly shoot my vacuum spike-zooka at him, I've got to think of a better name for it.
Then I remembered one needs to evolve at least 3 times in order to unlock consciousness and stopped myself.
The issue arouse about 2 hours ago, when he said something about how in the direction I was going I'd find a river filled with monsters.
In fact the words he said where : "tch... Unlucky cactus, flying straight into 'Death's river'. "
At that, I decided to turn left... Better being found out then dying after all... 'Death's river' .
Since then he's been here chatting non-stop.
I honestly don't dislike hearing someone talk after almost an year of isolation but being unable to speak back made his presence unbearable.
I only realise how much I miss speaking after losing the ability to do so.
"You know 'spiky' , having a consciousness before your third evolution is pretty rare."
"If you're not one of lazy races that is... Although they like calling themselves 'superior' races *piupiupipipipi*"
(A. N His laugh)
"They're so superior they're the only ones I've ever seen willingly getting alcohol poisoning *piupiupipipipi*. "
Yeah, I don't hate the bird.... Just everything that just got out of his mouth.
*bang* I shoot a spike-zooka at him
He dodged... No. My spike avoided him.
" Your magic's still to green kiddo *piupiupipipipi* Get it? Cause you're a cactus? *piupiupipipipi* "
... This bird.
"Now seriously though... the way you use your magic is wrong."
Hmm?
"You're using magic like a tool or like a separate part of you when it's not."
"You probably got tricked by that stupid skill description where it says that you manipulate 'wind mana' ."
"You 'manipulate' your roots too right? At least that's what's usually written on this kind of skills."
"Yet you treat your roots as part of you."
"Why would wind mana that's coursing through you be any different?"
