Chapter 9 - 7- There's magic everywhere... But here

You know those roots that were uprooted due to the sandstorm? Well let's just say I found a new use for them.

After my evolution my root growth and manipulation descriptions changed and now I can use something called 'wind' - type roots.

I've been experimenting with them for a while, and I figured out something.

I can turn 'normal' roots into 'wind' roots and vice versa almost instantaneously.

This change doesn't alter their appearance a lot, only giving a Grey-ish tint to the wind roots.

What does change though, is the fact that wind roots or as I'm planing to call them from now on flying roots can.... well, fly.

They dont fly to fast, only at the same speed which I can manipulate normal roots.

So I guess they're moving using the 'young wind root manipulation' skill.

While the speed isn't anything to speak of, now that I don't need to drill through sand to move them, I've decided to try and pull them closer to my 'parent' cactus.

My goal is to insert more of my roots through the hole, caused by my main root, on my 'parent's' side so that I can acelarate my 'parasitism'.

Speaking of parasitism, after I evolved into a 'parasit' I've gained a multitude of skills.

First off are spikes, which I'm currently growing and hardening.

Spikes are... for a lack of a better word, "different".

Unlike my roots which have a numerical rate of growth, spikes can in theory be grown instantly.

Spikes growth speed is directly related to the amount of nutrients I inject in them.

If I inject a lot of nutrients, they grow quickly, and if I inject few nutrients they take a long time.

Another thing about this spikes is that even if I'm not consciously feeding them nutrients, they still grow.

At a slow speed of course, but still fast if compared to my roots.

I believe that they are passively absorbing a part of the nutrients coursing through my stem in order to strengthen themselves.

They aren't absorbing a lot, but I still don't feel ok not being aware about it until after their done.

That's why, besides the minimum number of spikes on my stem necessary to protect me, I'm mostly growing spikes in orchids.

Orchids can automatically grow spikes with a selected amount of nutrients of my choosing.

The orchids also prevent my spikes from growing beyond the limits selected by me

Given these characteristics I'm planning on making spikes my main weapon, roots are good, but both their speed and durability have limits.

Once I've mastered 'wind' magic I'll start training shooting this spikes through the air.

When paired with nutrient filled orchids it'll hopefully act as a sort of gatling gun.

... Thats is if, I ever figure out how to use wind magic of course.

Of the skills I've adquire only 'wind mana manipulation' is still impossible for me to use.

The locked skills are excluded of course.

Aura vision is easy, all it does is let me see the aura of the living things around me.

I guess if I didn't have that weird soul vision skill, this would be my only way of viewing my surroundings.

Aura training on the other hand is more... Complicated.

It involves me compressing my aura and throw it outside of my body .

Afterwards when my body naturally absorbed the aura in the surroundings in order to replendish my own, it will absorb my original compressed aura plus the extra aura absorbed before it.

It hurts, not in a physical sense of course, but more in a... Belly ache of the soul.

To put this in better words.

Let's say I have 100 units of aura and my body can hold 100 units of aura.

Even if I compress those 100 units into a single cubic centimeter.

My body would still not take in more aura from the surroundings, because it would already be full.

If I expell those compressed 100 units, my body would start absorbing the units in the environment, until it reached 100 again.

But, let's say that my body is at 10 out of 100, when sudently it absorve the 100 compressed units from before.

It would have in total 110 units out of 100.

There are only 3 ways for this issue to be fixed.

First my aura limit somehow increases.

This option is not possible though because soul size determines the limit if my aura.

Although the size and quality of a vessel (body) does expand the soul.

Second my body expels the extra aura.

This is is not going to happen either because of the skill 'aura training'.

It blocks the aura from forcefully exiting my body while active.

And third, my body expends 10 units of aura in order to improve the quality of the aura it has.

The issue? I run the risk of losing the 100 units I throw away, and as such having to start over.

The higher the skill, the less the chance of this happening though.

None of my skills were hard to use or understand, they felt like limbs, even aura felt the same.

Wind mana on the other hand... except the one on my roots.

It feels like a completely separate entity.
