Lying still in bed, I wait for someone to show up with my eyes closed. Waiting for maybe 2 hours before I hear someone at the door, I am rewarded when the doorknob slowly turns. When the door creaks, I wait patiently until heavy footsteps cross the floor.
Suddenly, the footsteps increase in speed and then I open my eyes and turn over. Seeing him lunge at me with his claws out and his golden eyes wider than normal, I recognize Alpha Jason right away, even though it is dark in my room. I move quickly and dodge his attack, only to roll off the bed and onto the floor, before jumping onto my feet.
He turns and then in a flash he is in my face again. "How he is faster than I am?" I wonder while he tries to kill me, and then I see the vampire in the door, he must have used Jason to get to me.
That is how he is moving so fast. Figuring this out, I inspect his neck as I fight off his lashes. Yes, he has been bitten, and it looks fresher than I thought it would. Surely, he had been bitten before tonight if the vampire had been behind all of this? Even if Jason hadn't been bitten before, the vampire could have easily persuaded him to do his bidding.
Dashing out of the way, I knock the bedstand over into his path and it temporarily stops him for a moment, that is until he throws it behind him. Then he rushes forward towards me again, with great speed and agility. How can I fight this, if he is faster than I am, and the vampire is blocking my exit?
Where is the rest of my people who were guarding the door? Have they all been taken care of already? I ask myself if there is any other way out of here and the only answer is the window. Sure enough, there is a clear path to it, but if I leave now, the vampire will have won.
Thinking quickly, I realize there is one thing I hadn't thought of before. I glance out the window and see that they have waited too long and now the sun is coming up in the distance. Rushing over to the curtains, I rip them off the rods and the predawn moonlight cascades into the room.
If I can hold them off for just a bit longer, the sun will come up and the vampire hopefully will turn to dust. Then, maybe Jason won't be affected by his charms anymore. So, as Jason keeps advancing, I keep glancing between Jason and the vampire, as I dance around the room and try to escape danger.
I keep this up for another few minutes, until I see the moonlight disappear and the sunlight takeover. The rays light up the room and slowly spread across the floor, till the vampire realizes too late that he has stayed far too long. He rushes out of the room before he can be touched by the sunlight.
Knowing that if he leaves, this will never be over, I run after him and grasp his arm tightly. Pulling him in while feeling the blunt of Jason's claws on my shoulder and back, I shove the vampire into the open window, where he screams and then burns up. The minute the vampire turns to dust, Jason stops for a moment, and then shakes his head as if he is trying to clear his thoughts. This time when he looks at me the wild eyes are gone.
Realizing what he has done, he kneels down and begs, "I am so sorry, please forgive me for what I have done. He promised me that I would be King, and I would live forever. I would have never killed you. I promise."
Of course, he would say that. He knows I am about to end him. Lowering my head, I sigh and then raise my claws above his head before slamming them into his skull violently. As they pierce his skull, it makes a sickening bone crunching sound and then I hear someone come up behind me and I quickly turn around.
Omega Larry looks me in the eyes and says, "My king, you just killed Alpha Jason. Was he the culprit after all?"
With blood on my hands and all over my clothes, I clear my throat and state, "Yes, I do believe so. There was a vampire controlling him, but he still knew what he was doing. In the end, he confessed that he wanted the crown and that the vampire promised him eternal life with his kingdom." I watch as Omega Larry nods and then turns around to leave, but before he does, I need to know one more thing.
"Where were you all when I needed you the most?" His face changes instantly in a heartbeat and then I see his true self.
He is not Omega Larry, but another vampire in disguise. When he looks up at my eyes and sees the realization in them, he quickly turns and leaves. As I follow him into the hallway, I almost step on my people. They are strewn all over the tile floor and are all covered in their own blood.
Apparently, the vampires took them all out and now I am the only one left. Fearing the worst, I hope that they haven't killed all my people. Chasing him down, I almost have him when I hear from behind me one of the women screaming. She must have walked into the area and now is horrified by what she saw.
Not being able to attend to her now, I catch the vampire, before he disappears entirely. With my left hand, I latch onto his right forearm and drag him down to the floor where the sunlight is creeping slowly across. The minute it hits him, he shrieks and then starts to burn. When he has finally turned to ashes, I stand up and then rush back to the woman who is screaming.
I scan the area, before walking back into the corridor and watch as Omega Sasha is kneeling on the floor. She is crying and screaming at the same time for "Help." When she notices me approaching her, she stands up quickly and screams, "You did it!"
Not knowing why, she accuses me, so I raise my hands and say, "No, there were vampires who attacked and were helping Alpha Jason take over the throne. He tried to kill me and with their help. I am so sorry for your loss." I state when I see that one of the dead is her long-time mate.
Feeling incredibly lost now, I walk among the dead and listen to her cry in the background. Every where I turn there is a bloody body. We lost at least 15 good people tonight and for what? A kingdom? A throne? A crown? Or to say that they rule over everyone?
Was it worth it? Now, I am beginning to wonder if it is worth it anymore. Especially, when I have a mate and pups whom I love and adore. What am I king of anymore?
With so much doubt in my head, I begin to feel like I am drowning, so I go back to my room for a moment before grabbing a fresh change of clothes and cleaning up. I can't go to my pups and my mate with blood on my hands again. When I am changed and I have taken a shower, I make sure to call what is left of the security team and have them take care of the bodies properly. Then I take my keys and walk to the Ferrari.
As I drive to Arabella's parent's house, I think about what needs to happen. I must make a kingdom where there are no more wars or killing. Someplace, where everyone can live together.
When I see the house appear over the horizon, I smile and know that everything will be alright just as long as we all have each other. Knocking on the door to the house, I have a last-minute thought before Arabella answers the door, "What if the vampires had struck here instead? I wouldn't ever have been able to forgive myself." Seeing that it is me, she jumps into my arms happily and says, "Julian, I am so glad it is you, at first I started to panic. I am just so happy you are alive." She hugs and kisses me before continuing, "Did they attack then?"
I nod, and then reply, "Yes, unfortunately. It is over now, and I found out vampires were behind it all. Now Alpha John is dead and so are they." I smile and kiss her happily and then ask, "Are you all ready to go? I think they need their own beds. I know I do."
She hesitates and then says, "You know. I think my parents would love if they stayed for a few days. It would give us some time to ourselves, and they would enjoy the pups being around them." She smiles so hard that her dimples stick out and I lean down before kissing each one of them.
"Do you think that your parents can handle them all by themselves?" I raise an eyebrow as I ask, because they can be a handful and I am pretty sure in a day or less they will be calling us and begging to take them back.
Laughing, she says, "Actually, they have already asked, and I stated, that if you said it was alright, that they could stay." The smile spreads across the rest of her face all the way to her eyes this time, and I know she has an ulterior motive, when I see the desire that is burning in her eyes.
After saying goodbye to the pups, we drive back to the castle and I notice that everything looks back to normal as we walk up to the bedroom and stay there the rest of the night and most of the next day too.
