Fearing the worst, I was right. I didn't get to him in time, so we head to the front of the house. When we get to the vehicles, five men surround us before I can get Arabella safely inside.
As soon as I have her lock the car door, I turn around and face them like a real man. I scan the area and notice two things. Four of them have already started to change, the other one is still in his human form.
Not too sure why he hasn't changed, I don't care either. Soon enough, I will be knee deep in blood and guts, so the last thing on my mind is why he hasn't changed. Glancing around one last time while they continue to change, I see something in the distance I didn't expect.
Beta Daniel and Beta Richard are poised just behind the trees, ready to pounce. Pleased by this and relieved, I nod to them just before they attack, and I lead the advances. Crying out, "Die!" I slash the nearest one in the throat, before glancing back at Arabella and Eric. They are in the car, and the last thing I see of them is the back window as Eric drives off with her. A smile spreads across my face, because at least now if I die, she will be safe for the moment.
Continuing the battle, I hear something beside me when another three men come out of the house to surprise us. I slash and bite at their skin before one of them loses an eye as I poke it out with my claws. He didn't need that did he really?
Knowing this is the last straw, my wolf takes over and I slip into a haze. I have never thought of this before, but if I die while my wolf has control, do I even notice? Or would it be like a dream where there is no ending, and it just keeps going forever?
Then a thought crosses my mind that disturbs me even more than that, so I ask myself, "If I die today, what will happen to Arabella and the pups? Surely, if she goes back to her parents and they find out that the pups are hybrids, they will either kill them or send them to the government to deal with." There is simply no way I can let that happen.
Feeling a surge of adrenaline course through my veins, I quickly snap out of my haze to take control of my body again. Grabbing a fistful of one of their manes, I rip it out and he screams in agony before I use it against him. The last thing he hears is his own bones crunching when I crush his larynx.
There is one more ready to take a tumble with me, so I turn towards him and then let him have it. Lunging at him, I bite his throat and dig my claws into his sides before hearing a sharp intake of air before his body becomes limp in my arms.
Ending it all, Beta Richard finishes off the last one and I regain control of myself completely before saying calmly, "Thank you both. I couldn't have done it without you, but where did you come from? And how did you know that we were here?" I glance between the two of them before Beta Richard opens his mouth to speak.
"Well, a little birdy told us that you might need help. See, I overheard Beta Montgomery say in the West Wing that they are attacking this house and he even kindly gave the directions. So, it was easy enough." He smiles at me with blood all over his cheek before he raises a hand to wipe it clean.
Smiling back at him, I extend my left hand and say, "Thank you." Before he takes it in his.
"No problem. You are my King, and she is my Luna. There is no way I could let it go down like this. You know, there are still some of us who are loyal and don't care that she is a human. It is just disgraceful that they would turn on you just because of a little thing like this." He looks disgusted and a little pissed off but seems to have worked his aggression out when he killed three of the guys that are lying around the yard.
"So, you probably should be getting back. I saw that your friend took off with Arabella in the direction of the castle." He looks a little worried but then states, "The car is over here. Let's go."
Following the two of them, I see the car in the clearing a little further down the driveway. Keeping an eye out for anymore problems, I open the door and get in before Beta Daniel turns the key in the ignition. As I hear the engine turn over, I think back to when Arabella purred in my arms and suddenly miss her desperately.
Remembering that she said she was in labor right before they escaped, I realize that we must hurry. Leaning forward in the seat, I say to Beta Daniel. "Step on it. I think Arabella is about to have the babies."
Speeding along, I watch out the window absent mindedly at the thought of becoming a father so soon after all of this has happened. Will I be a good father? Or even a good man to my woman?
Still staring out the window, I remember when we first made love and she trusted me. Will she ever again? My mind keeps running in circles so much that I barely hear Beta Richard ask me, "Are you alright my King?"
Raising my hand to my neck, I rub it while working out the knots and then answer softly, "Yeah. I was just thinking."
He turns his head back around to face the front before turning the radio on for the rest of the journey. When we get back to the castle, everyone is shocked that I stroll up to the front doors with a smile on my face. "What?" I ask of Beta Julia as she stares at me while standing next to the open front door.
Stuttering, she blinks rapidly and then declares, "I had heard that you were dead and now Alpha John has taken over!"
Shocked, I stare at her for a few minutes until I figure out what to say, because there was only one thing on my mind till now. Where is Arabella and has she had the babies?
