Chapter 4 - Chapter 3

Layla's POV

After spending most of my morning with Maia, I then found myself walking in the hallway with a grin on my face. It was really good to have a smart best friend. A very reliable one. Though in the pack, Maia is a much higher ranking she-wolf than I am, I never felt being dominated or bullied by her.

"Look out!"

Hearing that, I instinctively duck down while I covered my ears. Exclamation like that means a ball is coming to hit you, right? But it's literally five seconds later, there's no ball bouncing near me. I glanced to my side and saw Tana, my fellow omega in the pack, standing stiffly with her books tucked in her arms. She appeared to be scared of something, directing her eyes in front of me. Just what the-

My soul!

I see it escaping out my mouth.

"You seem to love crouching down the ground, pumpkin."

Hades! In front of me! Hades!

Help! Oh gosh, he's coming!

I need to run. To heck with negotiating! How can one breathe normally in front of this tyrant?

The wild and vicious look he gave me during that hunt still haunts me every night. I didn't intend to accidentally enter their hunting den and alarmed the beast they've been patiently waiting on the sidelines to kill. It was a full-size bear with lots of scars across its body.

In human form, the bear could squeeze my skull like a ripe blueberry. I looked tiny compared to it and I panicked but still readied myself to fight it no matter what. I mean, I can't die there. However, before the beast's giant claws could reach me, the snow around me colored scarlet with blood, not mine.

I stared at the eyes that killed the beast with his bare hands. I fell on my butt, shaken on how he regarded me in such dark intent. I cowered when he reached down, grabbed the back of my shirt, dragged me towards his pack, and dropped me with a loud thud.

I recalled I ushered him with my eyes when he put his distance from me and his pack. The blood still dripped from his hands and he seemed unbothered by it. Then I found myself returned like a lost little kid to the pack with the whole Black Lilies behind me. Except for that Alpha though which I'm grateful. I can't spend more time with him after seeing hell with his eyes alone. He seemed an inch closer from hurting me back there.

After that event, Cross earned himself the title of Hades among the wolves after taking down such a predator alone. The other alphas kept their distance from him after hearing such hideous thing he can do on his human form alone.

In the school, he's well known to be a punisher who dared piss him off and maybe, 'll be the next one to be crawling in fours with a tail tucked in between legs until he satiates his anger all on me for fooling him.

"D'you take your breakfast yet?"

Cross voice stole me from recollection then.

"B-breakfast?"

"The food you eat before the day started. Breakfast," he said and I have no clue why he crouched down too.

"I...I did." I answered and my attention was drawn to the people behind him. The Black Lilies. I gulped in nervousness when I return my eyes to the boss. "Y-you're not going to fight with another pack, are you?"

Hunter raised his brows in confusion before he looked behind him. "Oh them? They insisted to come with me."

"W-where exactly?"

"In the school club. To get my girlfriend whom I haven't heard for the whole semestral break." Hunter said with a smile but I sense a warning in his sweet voice that I'm dead if my reasons is deemed invalid for him.

I recall, running away from the karaoke bar after sobering up and I never looked back. Of course, doing so, I thought, I could move on from that mistake.

"Oh. I-I was busy on research papers." I said.

"Papers? Uhuh," he said in an obvious unconvinced tone. "Let's say, I believe you. Stand up and join me for breakfast," he said, turning away from me with lazy steps.

I saw his members divided to make way for Hunter, like a force they had to follow...and in my case, I have to follow or my ass will be whoop.

Standing up, I timidly followed behind, thinking of the deal I need to strike to him. Just a brief encounter with him serves as a challenge to my soul that I barely catch from escaping my body and leaving me lifeless.

The buzzes around the canteen died down, as expected, whenever Hunter Cross would enter there. As we sat at the table where no one dared to occupy even the canteen is extremely busy, my head is bowing.

"What do you want to eat, pumpkin?" he asked.

I looked at him and realized that everybody paid all their attention to me. The students, the servers, and even the club members. Oh my gosh, Vice-president is here too. Sayonara for now my everlasting love. I have to value my life first to make my dream of dating Gian in the future come true.

"I'd take whatever you like." I just said. As if I can digest anything I'll eat in front of him.

"Alright." He said and actually stood up from his seat and get our food on the counter. I stared at his back and heard that he sounded polite. Is he always like this? My eyes went to the club members who also eyed me in secret every now and then.

My heart went somersault when Gian gave me an inquiring look. Oh heaven. He's really an angel for me. That look of concern didn't really fail to make my heart flutter.

"Where are you staring at?"

" Nothing!" I exclaimed and coughed awkwardly."

Hunter then settled back on his seat across me and intently stared at me.

"W-what?"

"Don't you even think about cheating on me. You're the one who confessed first."

My mind went blank for the moment before my mind went to Maia's advice for me. I cleared my throat first before braving myself into meeting Hunter's eyes too.

"I-I know this burdened you. I really don't expect you to l-love me that fast." Oh gosh, here goes nothing. "L-let's give this a three-months trial."

"What nonsense are you spouting now?"
