Chapter 13 - Lay Rest to the King

"I shouldn't waste any time."

I vanished and appeared in the throne room. I grabbed the both of them and vanished again. All of that happened so fast that they couldn't perceive it. I appeared on the roof again.

"What are your names?"

They both looked at the ground with no single expression or emotion from them.

"We have no names."

I kept silent for a while...and then spoke.

"I have quite a liking for you two. How about joining my Familia?"

A few days later, midnight

As soon as I returned from Aria, I arranged for the two slaves I bought as well as Camil and Maria to receive the training of their choice at the Familia Mansion in the Dimensional World. I then decided to kill the king so that there would be a vacancy on the throne. I sneaked into his room and sealed it with with a void barrier. I then conjured a water ball and splashed his face with it. As he woke up in a state of confusion, I restrained him with my telekinesis. I began speaking.

"King Arnold Armania, 56. Has reigned for 32 years as King, rumored to be a 'side' descendant of the royal elven lineage. I guess your ancestor did the Elf Queen. Lucky him. Let's get to the important part. Intel says you've been actively supporting certain nobles in trafficking young women. You've been working pretty hard Arnie. Embezzling, corruption and you've even been accepting bribes to slide issues under the rug. I also heard a little bird say that you've been secretly involved in all the attempted assassinations on me the last three years. Well then..."

I touched his legs with my hands.

"Let's start shall we?"

As I was about to begin freezing his legs, Ashley suddenly appeared.

"WAIT!"

"What?"

"I heard you say he is related to the elven lineage. Maybe his body has some secrets I could decipher, which is why I need him alive for some experiments."

"You and your experiments again? Can't we just kill him and then I hand over his body to you?"

"No not yet. I've never encountered a situation like this so it's better if he's alive for now."

She took out a knife.

"Hold him still please."

I strengthened my telekinesis by adding more mana arms to restrain his entire body as Ashley began cutting a neat line along his leg directly above the bone. Arnold couldn't move at all as his muffled screams could be heard.

"Hey Ash. What matters anyway if he's of elven lineage?"

"Elves have naturally superior agility and endurance. I haven't caught any elves yet but if his blood contains even a bit of the elven bloodline, I may find clues onto how they have such qualities, allowing me to improve my martial arts."

"I don't think he'll have any elven bloodline in him so stop cutting the poor man's leg. He's dying over here and it'd cause problems for us if he is found with injuries."

Tears were coming out of King Arnold's eyes as his leg was split open. Ashley laughed.

"What he's experiencing pales in comparison to how much the commoners have suffered under his rule. Because of his uncaring nature..."

Ashley cut deep into the bone.

"...nobles abused that and made the lives of commoners bitter."

Ashley kept digging deeper as the muffled cries and groans of the king filled the silence. In the end, Ashley frowned.

"I'm not finding anything at all. His blood, tissue, marrow, everything is worse than a normal human's."

"What do you expect from a pig who spent his life only exercising his fifth leg?"

Ashley removed her knife.

"It's pointless to continue. He's now officially useless. We still on the plan to help Maria become Queen right?"

"That's exactly why I'm here. Arnie here has outlived his usefulness."

I began healing his leg.

"Even though he's useless, he's still a king and it'd be a pain if it was found out that he was killed instead of dying a peaceful death in his sleep."

I placed my hands on his legs.

"Don't worry Arnie. This will feel slightly uncomfortable for only a few...hours."

I began freezing him.

"This magic will slowly freeze your whole body from both inside and out. It'll move slowly from your legs and up."

His eyes widened with fear.

"Well then, sleep well King Arnold."

I also froze his mouth so he wouldn't be able to scream when I left. His eyes were filled with tears as he saw my retreating figure. As I opened the door to his room to leave, I looked back.

"Your death is necessary and...you shouldn't have messed with me."

The next morning, it was found that the king had died. I had removed all traces of my magic and I had set the ice to dissipate after a few hours. There was turmoil as to who should succeed the throne. In the meeting, a few nobles tried nominating themselves but since I'm a Grand Duke, I have the biggest say. I 'nominated' Maria but a fellow Grand Duke, Armin Dale, a plump old man had problems with me.

"I personally believe that a Queen of commoner origin is inadequate to rule this country."

"But she's from my family."

"An adopted child of unknown origins doesn't count as of noble bloodline."

"Let me ask you this. What does a bloodline have anything to do with ruling a country?"

Grand Duke Armin fumed.

"This has been the norm of our country FOR CENTURIES!"

"And yet...this country has only gotten worse and worse under the rule of you nobles."

I looked at him calmly as I cupped my hands to support my head on the table.

"Since it is clear that nobles are very unfit for ruling, why don't we let a commoner rule for once?"

"NO! I'D RATH-"

I released my killing intent.

"I said, why don't we nominate Lady Maria as Queen?"

Everyone in the room kept quiet. The nobles of other families were nervous. I looked at the Grand Duke.

"I'm trying to respect you as an elder but it doesn't seem to be working so I'll tell you now. Maria Blake WILL become the new Queen. I'm not suggesting or asking for permission. I'm telling you what's going to happen."

Another noble shouted.

"BUT IT'S OUTRAGEOUS FOR A COMMO-"

*Splat*

His arms went flying as with a flick of my finger, I used Wind Cutter to slice them off. As he screamed, I smiled.

"Is everyone in favour of Lady Maria Blake becoming Queen."

Everyone quickly answered yes.

"I hope you'll bring the most extravagant gifts for the new Queen of Linchestin."

With that, I vanished from the meeting room, leaving the old nobles alone to talk. Some were proposing ways to kill me while a very select few stood up and left.

"Seeing as how so many of you are seeking death, we'll take our leave so as not to be involved."

Marquis Flannel, a very old man who seems like he'll die at any moment spoke.

"Even though I am nearing my end, I still wish for a peaceful death."

As he stood up and walked to the door, he spoke.

"There's a reason why that young man is called the Noble Killer. Don't antagonize him. You can't afford the consequences. What we've seen just now pales in comparison to what he's done before"

Other nobles followed and in the end, there were only 12 left. Most of them were the siblings of the nobles I had killed. Baron Hamil, who was middle-aged spoke.

"I have a proposal on how to kill this annoying brat.

Another noble, Duke Klint spoke.

"Oh? Please enlighten us."

"Take that filthy servant girl he wanted to be Queen and hold her hostage."

The whole room was silent. Duke Klint spoke.

"You really are an idiot. No wonder your territory is in a pathetic state."

"W-What do you mean?"

"Isaac Blake killed the son of a Count when his servant was kidnapped by him. That was more than a few years ago. No one ever knew he was there until it was too late. If he was that skilled as a child, I don't want to imagine just how dangerous he is now."

He sighed.

"It's safe to say that Isaac Blake is trained in the art of assassination so a hostage situation is completely out of question. His abilities and full capabilities are unknown. It's impossible to control him by targeting the people next to him."

Baron Hamil spoke.

"Then I propose we simply hire someone to deal with him for us."

Another noble spoke.

"That's RIGHT. I refuse to believe that there is no one in this country who can't defeat him."

Grand Duke Armin spoke.

"There is no one who can defeat him who is willing to be on our side. The only ones who have a chance of defeating him are either his parents or that Steelwater girl who's always with him. Even if there were others, you cannot ignore the influence of the Blake Family. No one would want to offend the heir for no reason."

Duke Klint spoke.

"Is there really no way to dispose of this irregularity? Our ancestors would be ashamed to see us now."

Another noble, Viscount Odavil smiled

"I may have a way to get rid of this scourge."
