He looked over and smiled at her, she smiled back and squeezed his arm gently. He grabbed the ring and slid it on her finger, then he leaned over and kissed her cheek.
"Nothing," he whispered, placing his forehead on her shoulder, smiling slightly. He wrapped his arms around her and held her close, he felt her rest her head on top of his.
He lifted his head and looked at her again.
"Do you think we'll ever get married?" he asked, tilting his head a little.
"I don't know, we won't be young forever." She sighed.
"Yeah," Kiyoshi agreed and then added, "but maybe we'll have kids before then, and they'll be cute."
She chuckled and nodded, then pulled him closer again.
"I hope so," she said softly.
A few hours later Sakura went home, Kiyoshi stayed at his desk studying. About half an hour later his cell phone buzzed on the nightstand, he glanced over and picked it up. His eyes widened when he saw the text he received.
From: Takeda Sakai
Kiyoshi, I'd appreciate it if you would please keep the date you gave your sister tonight quiet.
Kiyoshi stared at his phone. Why would Takeda want him to keep it quiet? What could be wrong? Did he think there was something going on between Kiyoshi and his girlfriend? He thought about it, then sighed deeply. There really wasn't anything going on between him and Sakura, he hoped Takeda was just being paranoid because of the whole breakup thing, but that didn't seem very likely.
He looked at his phone for another few seconds before replying:
Of course, why?
Thank you. You can tell her I told you to stop asking questions. :)
Okay. I will.
He looked back at his paper and began writing again, ignoring the sinking feeling in his stomach.
Chapter 4
Kiyoshi hated himself sometimes, he hated how his life was turning out, he knew that he shouldn't blame himself, he was the one who messed everything up and got himself into all the trouble he did. He was the one who pushed her away when he knew she needed him, he was the one who ruined everything, he was to blame for everything that happened. And he knew that, but it didn't stop him from blaming himself.
He sighed as he leaned back against his pillows staring at the ceiling, he tried to convince himself that none of this was his fault, that he could do nothing to stop any of it, but deep down inside he knew that wasn't true.He knew that no matter what he did, he always ended up hurting the people he cared about. He could never fix it. He knew that and it hurt.
His father had left when he was only ten years old, he had been so angry and disappointed that his only family member just left him, leaving him and his mother to fend for themselves. He didn't know where his father had gone, nor did he care. The man had caused so much pain and suffering to him, and now he had taken his son with him when he had left the house that morning.
It had only been a few months after the divorce had happened that his mother had begun to cry a lot, he didn't understand why until he realized that she had begun thinking that her husband had done something bad, something terrible that she deserved. She had blamed herself because she believed that her husband hadn't loved her as much as he had promised, he had promised that he would stay and love her no matter what, and instead he had run off to a woman.
His father had come home one afternoon, furious and crying, telling his mother that he was going to leave for Australia for a month to work on a project that he and his co workers were working on together. They were hoping to create a program for teenagers in Japan to get involved in kendo. They were expecting to come home a couple days ago and spend some time with his mother before returning to Sydney to meet his friends there. So Kiyoshi and Sakura had spent the afternoon helping his mother cook lunch and cleaning up the kitchen after his father had left. They had laughed and played video games, mostly watching a horror movie they had watched before, then his father had returned.
He had arrived home late that evening, drunk and angry, he yelled at them for wasting his money on a stupid movie, he shouted at his wife and then he went upstairs to sleep.
Sakura had fallen asleep shortly after he had left, and Kiyoshi couldn't bring himself to go to bed and join her, so he had sat on the couch and tried to read but failed miserably, he closed his book and stood up. He walked out of the living room and towards their bedroom, he knocked on the door lightly then opened it.
His mother was laying on her side on the queen sized bed, facing away from him, so he quietly entered. She was curled up under the covers, her hair spread all over the pillow. He walked quietly to his side of the bed and laid down on his own side. He turned on his side and hugged his stuffed animal tightly, then closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep.
When he woke up in the morninghe found Sakura lying on the floor next to his bed. He smiled to himself and rubbed his face tiredly. He rolled over and put his hands behind his head, then looked up at the ceiling again.
"Morning sunshine," she whispered.
He blinked his eyes open and smiled widely, "good morning."
"How long have you been awake?"
"I dunno, about an hour?" he said, not looking at her.
She hummed and shifted, moving so her feet were hanging off the edge of the bed.
"Did you sleep alright?" he asked without looking at her.
"Yup," she answered simply. "How about you?"
"Same," he replied, glancing over at her, "do you mind if I ask you something?"
She looked over at him and shook her head, "go ahead."
"Why are you here?"
"Huh?" she furrowed her brow, then shrugged, "what do you mean?"
"Like, why are you here?" he clarified. "You've been staying at my house since you broke up with your boyfriend."
"Ahh…well…it's just…" she trailed off, she sighed heavily and sat up, swinging her legs over the side of the bed. "I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable yesterday," she murmured
