-Next Day-
I woke up with a throbbing in my head. I chose to not open my eyes once I heard voices.
"What do you mean? she's a rarity, a commoner holding the power of light." Egon's voice whispered. He sounded confused and worried at the same time.
"She is rare and strong, we have to admit her even though her test scores on the written exam were subpar. She'll be in danger from here on out your majesty. People will covet her rarity and wish to take it for her own. If the Ixeasel empire finds out Mercurial would send assassins and what not her way before she even knows how to harness her power and use it to protect herself." The headmaster spoke. "However, I still want her to do the aptitude test to measure her power."
"Fine, but only if I can accompany her." Egon stated harshly.
"Very well, the doctors said she should wake up soon, bring her to the Crystal hall. She will do her test alone, we want to keep everything about her protected for the time being." The headmaster replied with a stern voice.
"Very well, also I want her up on my floor, in the Dragon suite next to mine, have my maid take her belongings there." Egon ordered. I heard the rustling of clothes that told me the headmaster bowed and left the room. I heard Egon sigh and take a seat near the bed.
"Are you done eavesdropping Jorgeana?" He asked with humor. I slowly opened my eyes to meet his. They were full of a mischievous glint.
"What happened?" I asked him with a questionable look on my face. I still felt a bit weak and woozy.
He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair.
"You're a glow elemental, specifically known as light, that power is rare but for you to be a commoner born with a rare gift raises questions. Not only do you have this rare power but it's overwhelmingly powerful. I was drawn to you the moment I laid my eyes on you. Your spiritual power is on par with a Goddess. You see Goddesses are usually born to noble families so for one to be born to a common family is remarkable and rare." He explained while still kind of baffled himself. Which made sense, Goddesses and Gods were all born of noble birth and lived much longer. There was one about every decade with spans lasting up to 4 decades between. They were always related to the Lunar family in some capacity.
"Power on par with a Goddess?" I questioned absentminded. I was floored, me a goddess? How did I notice or even know?
"Yes, it appears that you are a distant relative of the Lunar family. I'm not sure how a part of the Lunar family fell to mere commoners but that is the only explanation of your power at this point." He said in a mesmerized manner.
A knock came from the door before a brown headed girl with glasses in a maids uniform entered. She bowed deep in respect toward Egon
"Your Majesty, I have brought Miss Sparrow's clothes as requested." her timid shy voice squeaked out.
"Thank you Momo, you may go." He stated taking the clothes from her. He sat the clothes on the foot of the bed and stood up. I didn't realize how tall he was until now. He had broad shoulders that went into a slim waist and long legs. He smiled kindly and exited the room to allow me to get dressed. I slowly got up, I still felt a little dizzy but it was manageable now. I quickly put on the flowy pants and tie over shirt. I slowly walked to the door trying to get used to my legs again. I guess the large show of power really took it out of me. I exited the infirmary and met up with Egon who was waiting outside.
"Shall we go and get this over with so you can rest?" he asked with a smirk. I gave a brisk nod and we headed off.
-Crystal Hall-
Egon and I entered Crystal Hall, at first glance I understood why they called it as such. There was a large crystal in the forefront of the room that lightly glowed. There was a flat surface meant for one's hand. Aligning the hall sides were various medium and small crystals on columns. These crystals were used by famous elementalist through the ages and were on display in all their glory. The floor had the Athene Noctua crest in beautiful gemstones. There were rubies and garnets for the rose. The rose stem had emeralds and peridots. The owl had onyx for its eyes, diamonds for its feathers and bloodstones that distincted the body parts. Whoever had created this spent a great deal of time on it. It was beautiful. The glass windows were frosted in a way that prevented direct sunlight from hitting any of the crystals. The hall's ceiling had its history painted across many large frames.
Before I had realized it we had reached the giant crystal. Also known as the Athene Noctauli.
"Jorgeana Sparrow, welcome please step forward to have your abilities measured. The brighter the crystal the higher the power, the dimmer the lower. Are you ready?" The headmaster's warm grandfatherly voice explained. I nodded and stepped forward, I placed a shaky hand on the stone's cold smooth surface. Soon the stone began to brighten, but it didn't stop, it was to the point that the stone was almost as blinding as the sun. A vision flashed in my mind. It was one of terror, people were screaming and the world was in chaos. I ripped my hand from the stone immediately as the vision had started so I only had a few seconds of insight. I shuddered intensely and closed my eyes to give myself a moment of peace.
I looked around to see the stunned faces around me. My eyebrows knitted together as I tried to understand what I saw.
"Your Majesty, you are correct she is indeed powerful, we will permit her into the academy." The headmaster stated in awe.
The prince nodded and turned to me.
"Shall we go? I'd like to show you your room." Egon smiled at me.
I nodded in agreement and followed him out of the hall.
We climbed the stairs all the way to the third floor in blissful silence. My mind kept wandering back to the images I had seen. I shook my head to clear the memories the best I could. There was no way my room was up here, this floor was meant for the imperial family strictly.
"Here we are." Egon stated outside of a radiant door. The door had elegant carvings of the owls and moons adorned with gemstones and gold. I grasped the door with elegance and opened the room. The bed was in the middle of the big room with elegant posts that rose into the air. Each post emulated an elemental and were beautifully painted. A golden seer hung from posts to represent glow. My mouth was agape at just the bed. There was a sitting area with a chaise and table in front of a fireplace that was intertwined with gold branches. The bathroom had a large private bathhouse and had carefully painted stones with protectant on it. The painted stones told the history of Celestrail. I turned toward Egon in confusion, this couldn't be for me could it.
"Is this your room?" I questioned with a dazed look on my face. I had never seen such luxury in my life. Egon laughed out loud grabbing his stomach.
"No, Jorgeana, this is your room. The Imperial family has agreed to put you here to protect you. You have a rare elemental, and would be in danger on any other floor. The Imperial floor has special magic placed on it to prevent possible assassinations of a royal member." He explained wholeheartedly.
"Oh" I said and blushed with embarrassment.
"I'll let you get settled then. See you in class tomorrow." He stated with a smirk and closed the door as he left.
I sat on the bed in complete shock. I raised my hand and manifested my elemental. It cascaded from my hand with grace. Swirling around and shimmering in whites, golds and blues. I closed my hand immediately ceasing the luminary lights. I stood and dressed in night clothes, slipping into the large bed. It was adorned with satin sheets and warm fluffy blankets. It was like being wrapped in a cloud. Tomorrow would start my first day at this academy and I had an uneasy feeling in my stomach. Nonetheless the cloud-like bed lulled me into an untroublesome slumber.
When I woke up the light shimmering through the large window. Today is my first day, they would start with morning exercises to hone in our combat skills with a weapon. I grabbed my sword after getting dressed and headed down to the training hall. Once in the training hall I stood in the ranks waiting for the professor. The students were buzzing with excitement as I stood silently in the corner with myself.
A door slammed, pulling my attention to a man with a scar down the left side of his face. He was older, possibly in his early 30s. He had white hair pulled into a bun and a beard that hid his sharp jawline. He was well built with a tattoo of the Athene Noctua on his left shoulder. He wore the same uniform as us with some differences. He had no sleeves leaving his broad arms bare. The front was very loosely tied so some of his chest showed as well. Unlike ours his was all black with red instead of the white.
"I am Professor Blaze Atlaze, I will be your combat instructor." He stated in a gruff voice as he put his hands behind his back. Even in this stance he was menacing.
"All the weapons you chose in the exams are special. They can be used as an extension of your elemental. All of you will learn your sword's names and special abilities over time." He continued to explain. There were murmurs from the crowd as he stated this. Many of the students whispered that they had never heard of such a thing. The professor chuckled with a smile.
"A Insikaimoan is the initial power you have to awaken in your sword. Once mastered you will move to Nocturia which is the transcended power of your sword. This is an immense secret kept within the Athene Noctua and can take years to master." He explained even further. Students' eyes widened in shock at this revelation.
"Now, let's get started." Blaze stated with a wolf-like grin. "Everyone do 15 laps around the dome, the last 50 students have to do 10 more laps." I heard the students groan and complain but everyone started at a jogging pace. I jogged alongside them and before I knew it I had finished in the fifth spot. Since I had been raised as a commoner I was in better shape. I walked the majority of my life unlike the noble class. The first to finish was Egon and after him Damon. The two after them were students I didn't know. Before long all of the students had finished. The loser 50 did their extra 10 laps while the rest of us stretched. Once all the students had finished and were stretched we were paired up with each other. To my great dismay I got Fallon Loch again. She wore a wicked grin on her face as she strolled over to me.
"Well, well, well look what the trash dragged in. I see you managed to sleaze your way into the academy and SOMEHOW managed to be on the same floor as the prince." she muttered loud enough for me to hear. I did my best to ignore her ramblings. We were told to execute several movements on eachother. Fallon took advantage and hit me with her hardest attack. Driving me to the ground from the force of each attack. She had a crimson smile plastered on her face. Once I hit the ground with my bottom she leaned down making it seem as if she was just helping me back up. Once she had leaned down enough to grip my arm she seethed in my ear. "You think you're special huh? You will just be another nobody by the time I'm finished with you."
She released me as I stood up and went back into position to continue the lesson. I gritted my teeth in annoyance. I never asked for any of this. Not that she would care. Finally it was over and I was able to get a break. We gathered around Blaze so he could give closing remarks.
"Good job today everyone, however a lot of you need work. See you back here tomorrow bright and early." Blaze stated and walked away from the group. The students and myself dispersed to head to their next class. I had Histories of Illumination next. This class was normally about history and the basics. Since I had the elemental that had to do with it, the class was extended for 20 minutes just for me. I entered the class and took a seat along with the other students. The teacher soon entered. She was the plump lady with rosy cheeks who stood no more than five, two. Her dark gray hair was in a tight bun with ringlets framing her face. She came in and began to write things on the huge blackboard. Once she finished she turned and introduced herself to the class.
"I am professor Rose Glacier, welcome to the Histories of Illumination. This class covers the elemental known as glow or light. This elemental is extremely rare and only usually appears every one hundred years in a high prestigious family. Until now at least." She said the last bit with bitterness and then continued. "But it has been discovered the first ever commoner has received the gift of glow." She seethed calmly while meeting eyes with me. It was clear she was not at all happy that I received this elemental. Many of the students looked around and whispered amongst each other upon this revelation.
