I left the pack early in the morning and headed to the airport with one carry-on bag. It was small, containing only a few necessities like a change of clothes and a mobile phone charger, as well as the image of our child left by my wife.
When the plane landed, going through immigration was easy. I simply needed to show my passport and I was good to go. After all, many Southeast Asian countries and cities I knew needed people from other countries to come and spend to stimulate their tourism and boost their economy.
I rented an SUV from the airport and drove to the address given in the email. I hadn't been to Phuket in years, and the last time I had been there was when I was a teenager when I followed my parents on a vacation.
The airport wasn't far from where I needed to go, but I was so eager to get to it that the drive felt like forever. I wanted to know who had sent me the email and if the person I longed for would be there.
